We had residencia ahead of brexbut went back to England to sell the house etc. then we flew back, renewed the padrón and the furniture arrived a couple of weeks later. It wasn’t a problem

Aha. That explains it. We have never lived in Spain prior to this move. Therefore we can't yet obtain one

How about the 183 days rule? If you are on the padron since december 1, do the tax authority consider you as a fiscal resident for that whole year?

183 days is the time required to become a Tax Resident .... HOWEVER, if you are entered on the Padrón, that is a declaration of habitual residence and AEAT can take that as you being De Facto Tax resident
