Hi wonder if anyone can help.

We are hoping to come to Spain in Oct 23, once our NLV has been completed, with our 2 x Shih Tzu's, one is 15 yrs old and one is 9 yrs old.

Is it worth buying pet insurance or just pay as you go at the vets?

We have heard that vet fees are much cheaper over there than here in the UK. So purely for budgetary reasons we thought we'd ask the question.

Thank you and kind regards,

Chris & Paula

Our Shi Tzu /bichon.  Dottie had a slipped disc op back in May in Murcia. €1700. Then she had the same when we got back to U.K. in Sept £5000 ! Insurance of course, but for how many ops?      I hope the Spanish stay as they are  the prices are realistic.

Hi L181SKY,

many thanks for your reply. It's interesting to see how much cheaper and more affordable it is for pet treatment in Spain.

Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for your pet insurance and who you used? This would give us a rough idea of costs for ours.

TIA and kind regards,

Chris n Paula

Well we live in Scotland , we have a house in Serena near Bedar for holidays.  I don’t know of any insurers for pets in Spain. I hope they dont go down that route. I wouldn’t worry about the costs honestly. My vet in Mojacar charged me for 16days of pain killers for her for her recovery of the first op.  €4.  You wouldn’t get that anywhere in U.K. for that .  Animal friends is one of the policies , £214 per year .  I use compare the market and you get great deals.

Wow! That's amazing, think we'll just go pay as you go in that case.

We've read somewhere that we need public liability insurance for pets in Spain?

Don't suppose you've heard about that have you?

Where we get it from, who to speak to?

Kind regards,

Chris & Paula

You will need a Gestoria for all your tax and legal stuff so I’d ask them. They will know.   All the best with your move. x

Hi

Have a word with ABC vet in La Alfoquia. Our little dog needed a major op last year, 450euros for everything, tests, drugs and consultations etc. Great people and service!

Wow that's brilliant. We will thanks Vijack. Can't believe how much cheaper it is for pet care. Let's hope that they don't copy the UK and start charging a lot more for treatment.

Thanks again that's very kind of you to let us know.

Kind regards,

Chris n Paula
