Hi, hope someone can help?

We are coming to live in La Alfoquia in October/November this year and have been advised to get a funeral plan in place as in Spain you get very little time to organise these things should the unimaginable happen.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, preferably English Speaking, Funeral Directors in the area?

I've had a look at Collyers, in Huercal Overa's website and liked what I read, but does anyone have any first hand experience of them or another good Funeral Director, with a rough guide on how much this would cost for both me and my wife Paula?

TIA.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Aww sorry to hear your sad news but thank you ever so much for your reply.

It's confirmed everything I initially thought about that company.

I wish you all the best at what must be a very upsetting time for you and thank you again for letting me know. Its very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Chris and Paula

costs depend on what you want if it's a basic cremation with no service then it is about €2500 each but if you want a service and other options then it rises considerably.  However, most offer a payment option of monthly amount so that you do not have to pay out in full.  They help with the red tape and the language in the event of a death which can be extremely traumatic without those problems to deal with as well but of course you can just contact a funeral director in the event of a death and pay on the day.   the thing to remember is that if you have a  joint bank account you may not be able to access money.

Thank you Alicia 11. Thats really useful info.

Think we'd be happy doing the simple cremation.

It's something you never want to think or talk about but we feel that we'd be lightening the load on the other if this was planned and already paid for.

Thanks again.

Moving to a new place involves so much planning! It's smart thinking to consider these things in advance. For an eco-conscious approach, have you checked out https://greenfarewells.com/? They offer a unique perspective on cremation. As for funeral directors in La Alfoquia, Collyers seems promising, but hearing from folks with firsthand experience can really help. Wishing you and Paula a smooth transition!

Hi ColleenReyes, thank you for that.

We've spoken briefly with Karen from Collyers, she was attending C.A.T.S Services in La Alfoquia, and we'd popped in quickly to collect our mail.

She gave us a leaflet explaining the different plans, and we've arranged a meeting with her to discuss the finer details. She was ever so nice and friendly, she will even visit you at home and have a cuppa with you whilst you chat and decide what plans you would like.

So all being well, we should be sorted out in the next few weeks.

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi Chris and Paula, I sadly lost my husband almost 2 years ago.

Collyfers was recommended to me by a friend.

Thet were brilliant, John Collyfer is a lovely man, he came to my home and explained every little detail.

I had a Cremation and a service and I couldn't have wished for better.

I strongly recommend Collyfers.

Good luck with your move Hope all smoothly.

Hi janboon, we're here already, we arrived 3 weeks ago. We've lost one of our dogs since arriving 😢. He had a brain tumour or bleed on the brain, so we said goodbye last week. 😢

But this just made us think even more seriously about our funeral plans. I have to say, the Spanish pet hospital at Murcia we're amazing. We've now had the cremation box they supplied and it's lovely, it's a metal, very ornate, box which opens and inside is a small bag which contains some of his ashes. It has his name on the top. Its amazing.

We're now renting in La Alfoquia for 6 months, just put an offer in in a villa in El Cucador, which has been accepted.

So things are looking a little better for us now, so as you say, hopefully we'll have many happy years here to make memories together.

Take care, and kind regards

Chris n Paula
