for your question on crime, and I can only speak for 2 areas

1st just outside Antas(20 years ago) I was in the process of moving over so my house was empty for longish periods, not long after I had a load of white goods delivered and while I was in the UK my neighbour spotted a bit of paint on my door,he is a canny old Spaniard and new this was a marker for people to rob the place so removed it,I suspect the deliver drivers.

2nd when I had rented a place in Mojacar I know I had closed and locked the patio doors but in the morning they were half open they were not very strong so a bit of chain and lock solved that, luckilly the burglars had been disturbed,

now that is over a 20 year period,

there had been a spate of muggings on Mojacar playa but the Guardia soon clamped down on it.

Like anywhere you live,UK/Ireland/Spain there is always a risk of petty crime, and as where you live you would be carefull do the same in Spain

apart from the big costas the Spanish have, to me, always been wonderfull people(especially when taking your money)BUT and it is a BIG BUT I have made the effort to speakadalingo

I have ALWAYS found the local police and Guardia very good  and very helpfull

Most areas near the coast have much English speaking people. Mind you, when the Brits learn to speak English like us they'll realize how superior our English is. But, continue to improve your Spanish; it'll become your best friend. Another thing, forget about the steriotype Brits. They are a sound race although it's difficult to wean them off fish 'n' chips and PG tips. You'll love them though. They like dogs, cats, walking, driving, drinking, reading and even some of them are capable of good conversation. But collectively they are a mine of good information and (thank God) come with the Spanish territory.

Yes Matthew you have certainly started to speak English better than us BUT sadly that is because you have better skools than us,dont forget we did initialy teach you,

as for Fish and Chips a michelin starred dish alongside Guinees and oysters

PG tips I agree it should be Earl Grey AND NO PANAMA HATS

Thanks again Andy. Yes prices are shocking in UK and Ireland. Its totally unbelievable. And yes  I am a great believer in solar panels.  My son lives in Greece and they are wonderful as every property has solar for water and or electricity. About the weather. Is is always warm? Or are their cold months?

Come, come! CJ When people were running around naked what is now the UK mainland we in Ireland had a civilised race complete with laws, clothing, language, writings, divorce, "housing" etc. I think you learned from us.

But, we did kidnap St-Patrick from Wales and he thought us (wait for it . . . . ) how to be Christian.

I wonder what else we taught you over there?😉

I now come over normally for Dec/Jan and you can still sunbathe temp normally around 18/19/20 in the day, it just feels chilly at night, But no days&days of rain,

a

last time I was over in the 7 weeks we had 2 afternoons of rain,

There's only so much of it you can stand though before it becomes just a depressing place.
