this from Dario
You can certainly retire, but unless you hold a passport from an EU
country, you will not be able to have any remunerated employment of any
kind whatsoever for the first five years
Thank you for the reply. Lots of people are telling us we can only be in the country for 3 months we are waiting for a solicitor to get back to us with answers.

Hi Treena. Do you have UKor EU citizenship? If it's UK you can no longer just move to Spain as you will need a visa. There are a few options. As you are retiring it doesn't sound like a Work or Self Employed visa would be suitable ( very hard to get anyway). The other options are Golden Visa ( needs 500000 invested in property or 1m in the bank), or there's the Non - Lucrative Visa (NLV). This is aimed at retirees. You apply in the UK and need to meet quite a few conditions including having a minimum amount of income or savings. Lots of hoops to jump through but so long as you have enough money it's possible. There's lots of info about NLVs online.

Hi Treena, yes you can spend more than 3 months a year. You just have to follow the Shengen rule which is that you can spend up to 90 days out of every 180 days. So just less than 6 months of the year you can still stay in Spain just not all together. You can break up the amount of time as long as you follow the 90/180 day rule. So if you plan carefully you can avoid the hot summer months and the cold nights in the winter and still enjoy plenty of time here. Good luck.
