Hi

We are looking at retiring to Spain and have found for us the perfect property. Unfortunately everything has been put on hold due to the current global situation as you can expect. We have found ALL estate agents not to be particularly helpful, whilst we receive very basic photo’s of properties ( maybe a dozen of a property that may have five bedrooms and three pictures are the same? No floor plans? No locationplans? ) we struggle to get answers on specific questions.

The property is 5mins outside Taberno and we do not know much of the area and would love to get as much information that we can. My wife speaks French but neither of us speak Spanish.

The property we have found has a little land as we will have one or two horses.

Any help, advice, tips on the area would be really appreciated.

Jerry

hi Jerry yes i'm afraid the situation in Spain with estate agents property details is that you rarely get a floor plan or a location map.  the newer properties may have them but not older rural places.  Taberno is rural and ok if you like that type of life difficult if you enjoy social life and easy shopping though.

you need to start to learn Spanish if you intend to settle there.

better to come and rent unless of course you already have the horses in which case it will be a bit difficult to do.

of course you have made sure you satisfy all the new regulations for coming to retire here post Brexit.

Hi Alicia

This is one area we are struggling, brexit info is very confusing! Not long to go now though.

Appreciate the reply.

Hi Jerry, if it’s the post Brexit regs that are a little confusing, this may help - it’s a guide I put together of the main visa classes and the requirements to satisfy them :

Guide to Visas for long-term residency post 31/12/2020

I very much endorse what Alicia says about learning Spanish if you intend to settle in Taberno.

Hi Jerry

It's wise to rent first as a previous post has pointed out.  Buying property here  by Internet without viewing is dicey - more so if you want to live in the countryside because you might be affected by nauseating smells from nearby pig farms, for example.  The rooms that you don't see in the photos must be for a reason, but I would say.  Rising damp is common in older properties and you can forget about grants to remedy the problem.

So in nutshell, if you still want to move here after reading Dario's thread, come first and take time to look around.

Hi Juanita.

Appreciate the comments. Certainly not planning on buying without seeing, just very difficult at the moment. We were thinking of renting first however after MONTHS of looking found the ideal property ( again without seeing it and estate agent pictures etc not exactly over whelming ).

Enjoy the festivities.

Seasons greetings to you too Jerry and good health and fortune for 2021.

You're right to think of renting first.   There are places to store belongings if necessary too.  Just ask on the forum and someone will have the details.   Good luck.

Perhaps ask the estate agent to do a video tour? Our estate agent did a video of our property and the buyers brought it without physicality seeing it.
