People are obliviously not  reading your first actual question!  Hope you get home safely, bon voyage

The post did not state that it was Spain/UK travel hence my reply and others,

But now it has been made clear I apologise for my harsh reply to the OP

Thanks. My greatest concern now is overnight stops. Service areas are an obvious choice but I was wondering if unmanned Aires de Campingcar are open for water, waste disposal, etc

all public campsites toilets and showers etc are closed due to the virus so wouldn't expect them to be open anywhere

I’m not travelling to Spain, I’m travelling to the UK, my country of residence as advised by the British Government “get home as soon as possible”. Unfortunately, my booked ferry is not until 10th April and there was no chance of getting an earlier sailing.

I've heard yesterday that Brittany ferries gave cancelled services so do check.  You might get a flight to the UK from France or Holland there are changes every day.  Good luck.

Thank you. I’m aware Brittany have cancelled their UK to France ferries, they cancelled the France to UK ages ago. DFDS are still running for now, I just hope they don’t pull the plug before my sailing. Fingers crossed!

OP also just read this on P&O website so if DFDS cancel they may help

We currently expect to be able to keep running an optimised schedule allowing for essential travel.

There are restrictions on all movements in France and Cars/Foot passengers will only be allowed to travel with a completed declaration proving that travel is essential until at least the 15/04/2020.

We have been advised that essential travel is limited to the following :

  • Going home to a main residence – proof of residence required

Thank you. I have all the paperwork. I think the priority is to get over the border into France, then if DFDS cancel I can try the other options.

I suppose so but not very safe for overnighting at the moment with so many jobless people and no street vendors allowed to be in sight of police so possibly desperate.  Loos are horrendously filthy too in the Aires.

Petrol stations where lorrys are parked might be a better bet or 24 hour fast food take away, eg: some MacDonald's.
