Currently stuck in the UK. My husband needs a kidney transplant. The ITV has expired and our car insurance end of August. Our vehicle is locked up at our Villa. I believe you can apply for special circumstances as to why we have no ITV etc. The insurance company have stated we can be fined.

Who do I contact?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Gill

Hi Gill,

If your car isn't on the road and you are not using it, you do a "baja temporal" it's like a sorn.

Here's information from the dgt about it. If you don't read Spanish it basically says that you must have an ITV whether you are using the vehicle or not unless you do a baja temporal (sorn).

If you go to this page https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/altas-bajas-y-rehabilitacion-de-vehiculos/baja-temporal-vehiculo/index.shtml and turn it to English in the top right hand corner, it tells you under the section "What means do you have to request the withdrawal" how to do it online.

Unfortunately when you click there, you have to enter into the process with a digital certificate, digital dni or pincode which means you have to be registered.

Someone could do it at trafico for you if they had all the documents, however at the moment there are no appointments available on the trafico website.

This is the correct information however it might not help you unless you can register digitally and do a baja temporal.

Good luck with the transplant.

Glenn

Hi Gill, you do not require insurance if your car is not on the road, I would guess that your insures are directline, they have tried this lie with me.

If you are  coming back say in the next 12 months it is hardly viable to do the "baja".

The only time a  vehicle in Spain is not obliged to have insurance is when it is registered officially with the traffic authorities as off the road  either temporarily or permanently.

Thanks Alan,  really appreciate your reply. Just such a worry. We were insured with Liberty Seguras.

Thank you

Lmj18 is correct... Legally the car should be insured.

doubtful if anything would be done about it but here is the relevant law.

Real Decreto Legislativo 8/2004, de 29 de octubre,

Must admit that the document is to large for me to have perused it all but It appears to me that it only refers to fehicles in circulation.

Morning,

I think the only possibilities are "En circulación" or "De baja".

If you haven't done a baja on your vehicle, then it is in circulation, no matter where it is.

However, I think that Gill will be ok if the car isn't on the road and she books an itv before she gets back and makes that her first trip, having restarted her insurance.

Hi Gill

The itvs were put back due to covid. Ours was due May but we had until November to do it. Could be that one's due August have also been given more time.
