That is exactly why I am asking the question! I know of a number of people who have travelled to and from Germany with dogs in the hold, apparently without I’ll effect and it seems to be pretty common in the USA. I understand that they need to be told well in advance so they can adj...

...ust the temperature in the part of the hold where dogs are kept, but what I really wanted was direct experience. Like you, I don’t like the sound of it, but that’s based purely on feelings and what we usually hear about temperatures in the hold of the plane.
Nope. I would NEVER do it. We flew from Schiphol to Alicante with my little Daisy ,our Romanian rescue. She is a VERY calm dog. She is normally Relaxed all the time. She travelled in my cabin size bag. Once engine started She trembled the whole way. I put my hand down Into the bag secretly to comfort her but no. Still trembled. We got through it. And the time went by quickly. But On the way back I think she was a bit worse. It got that I was thinking just get me off here she could have a heart attack. I’m going to ask the vet. I HATE the long drive but I put her well-being first. You say yours doesn’t like the car but if he or she isn’t terrified it’s easier. I also watched a documentary about animals in the hold. A co pilot said to the captain.” Do you remember the time we had a shipment of tropical fish in the hold? We forgot to put the heating on and when they arrived they were a frozen block ha ha ha. !!! So she will never be in that horrible place and the owners who put their pets in there have No Idea what they suffer. I would not have known how Daisy was , out of sight it’s easy to assume they are fine. Just saying.
