Does anyone know if you can use a car with expired ITV to drive to a pre booked test like you can for a MOT in the UK?

Reason for asking is I’ve been looking at a Spanish registered car in the UK but the ITV had just expired. Thinking if you can, drive it down through France and book a test at the first station you get too once you’ve crossed the border. Seller says he will get an MOT done in UK first so we know everything is OK.

Thanks in adva

Unfortunately it is illegal to drive a car without an ITV, even with a pre booked test, whether you want to take a chance is up to you, I don't know what it's like for police checks at the boarder as you enter?

Good luck either way

If the car is Spanish registered, you won’t be able to get an M.O.T on it anyway - it’s like trying to get an ITV here in Spain on a UK registered car.  A garage can check it and say it meets M.O.T standards, but any paperwork they issue is worthless.

If you were driving 10 km down the road straight from your home in Spain to a pre-booked ITV, you might get away with it … but driving a Spanish reg car with no ITV from UK? Well … if the fates are kind and the gods smile upon you, you might make it - but remember that in the event of needing to make an insurance claim, your insurance will automatically be invalidated by driving a vehicle with an expired ITV.

Yeah I know it would be a risk. You can MOT a car on its vin number, would still be ilegal to drive but you’d know the state of play with the car. I was thinking about doing the long crossing and finding a ITV station close to the port to minimise the amount of time you would have to drive illeagally

Anyone know how long it takes to apply for NIE. Once your Power of Attorney has been notarised in uk.

We seem to struggle to get it through for property contract date of 6th May.

Extranjeria will only today have reopened after Semana Santa; from application, assuming all paperwork correct, around two to three weeks

I got my Spanish Solicitor to do ours, he had them in less than 2 weeks
