Yes I fully agree. I did exactly this in using same company to buy house and then wondered why all their advice on residency was wrong. I did what was the easiest thing to do rather than doing some research. We live and I hope learn.

After repeatedly asking the Consulate " what is holding up negotiations on getting a Spanish License" I am wondering if anyone has raised a petition regarding this ? If so can anyone point me in the direction of signig this ?

What I done is went onto the DVLA and got a CODE then I gave the code to a friend how runs a haulage company and he put the code into the DVLA system and all my info came up. So I printed this off. I am coming back to Spain in the next few weeks.
Many thanks

The Government should seek to negotiate with the Spanish Government for mutual recognition of UK and Spanish driving licences, so UK ex-pats in Spain are able to quickly and easily exchange their UK drivers licences for Spanish ones.

This will make no difference unless you are thinking of hiring a car. The exchange only affects permanent residence. If you have a holiday home and are on the Padron driving a UK reg car too. I’m amazed at how many have no idea of what’s going on with the license issues in Spain! We are in the ‘had an incompetent Solicitor’ group. I have for the second time, today taken my Spanish theory test. Also how many don’t know that if the start date on your UK license is after the start date on your TIE (Residency), you can not exchange?

Point is … they ARE negotiating, but DVLA refuse to grant live access and that’s the line in the sand

UK are quoting data protection as no longer in the EU. It’s 50/50 if Spain accept access on a need to know basis then UK are ok with it, same as France
