I’ve posted the following on another thread, but bears repeating here - please don’t waste your time with a petition, the matter is well in hand.
This is a summary from the video put out by HM Ambassador Hugh Elliott on Twitter:
a brief summary for those who don't want to skip across to Twitter:
- The issue of data provision regarding motorists visiting Spain and driving on UK licences which has been the big line in the sand looks set to be resolved - HM Ambassador Hugh Elliot actually goes so far as to say that "The good news is that we will be able to resolve this issue" - not may or might, but will.
- With an agreement now looking far more positive, why can't residents go back to the interim measure of driving on their existing licences? UK actually asked for this, Spain said "no" (MY OPINION: This is what Spain is using to keep UK at the bargaining table, so not surprising they will not go back to it)
- HOWEVER, UK licences will again be valid to be used by residents the moment an agreement is reached and signed, for a period of 6 months.
- Such agreement, Hugh Elliot feels is only weeks away, not months. He is confident there now will be an agreement and it will happen sooner rather than later.
