Hello.

Please can you advise me on an NIE number. If I am looking to buy a holiday home, do I need this number? I'm Irish, therefore, I have an Irish passport.

Yes, you will definitely need an NIE number to buy a property

your solicitor will get this for you if you are purchasing a property

Hi Alicia. We’re Irish too and bought here 6 years ago. Yes, you will need an NIE number to purchase a property. And also to open a bank account, and to buy a car . Your NIE number is equivalent to out PPS number at home . It will also be needed for home insurance, water and electricity bills . As Tracy says the solicitor will advise you on everything. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
