France have just extended lockdown to 11th May and if I recall were one of the first to close borders to the UK weren’t they?

I’m reacting to claims elsewhere from some that Spain cannot survive without UK tourism and therefore that UK forms the brunt of tourism to Spain.  USA is to a much much lesser extent, but their quarantine laws are weak as well and they have a narcissistic egomaniac calling the shots....

...

Say what you like, but Britain’s quarantine “restrictions” are WEAK.  It seems as though they are still covertly seeking this “herd immunity”.  It of course doesn’t help when British police ask for the powers to enforce the quarantine and are criticized by a missing-in-action Home Secretary.

But anyway, I spoke of UK / USA because those are the two countries most in the news for having a wishy-washy approach to a pandemic.

Yet Spain and Italy have more deaths .. and a smaller population. Every country has there own ideas I will not like you criticise any of them .. the facts are there no country can go on the way they are spainitaly and Greece depend on tourism not just from uk but from everywhere. As I have said we all have opinions.  But it cannot and will not continue. It’s not your choice or mine but goverments. And they know it and by June you will see

By June, hopefully.  Although Spanish government is applying to extend lockdown to 10/5 (reported yesterday - no great surprise because Pedro Sánchez had already said he was going to)

As to the relaxation of restrictions, all we’ve done is gone back to what was originally enforced on 14/3.  Hardly wishy-washy here Andymac ... a £60 fine in UK if you continue to flout rules as opposed to a minimum 600€ here and arrest on second offence ... still, whatever works.

Just to add my one pennies worth of unsubstantiated opinion, I don’t know if Spain will be the problem.  As has been noted, there are shoots of hope in Italy and here - even if our new infection rate has started to rise again (up to around 630 I believe now after dropping to the low 500’s)

Let’s take very VERY best case scenario which will see easing of restrictions gradually over the month of May until by start of June we are sort of back to normal - that’s a very big ask, but like I say, very very best case........

...

... the issue then won’t be so much in Spain, but in visitors from countries with high population densities (i.e. UK)  with high infection rates and very weak quarantine restrictions (i.e. UK).  It’s entirely feasible that Spain, while slowly coming back to economic survivability, may close its borders to visitors from UK / USA until as such time the infection rate has dropped significantly and visitors from those countries are deemed “safe”

PLEASE NOTE: this is PURELY my opinion, completely unsubstantiated.  I have not heard this as a rumour anywhere, just my thoughts.

Totally agree with you Dario. We have flights booked to the UK for mid July, it will be interesting to see if they will go ahead. Then there's the risk of flying out and not being able to get back!!

There has been a little relaxation of regulations to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Spain. To many of us English speaking people this is an indication that Summer 2020 is back on track. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Spaniards are a hotblooded emotional race and they will take some time to get to the other side of their mourning. The UK is suffering more and more tragic CV-19 deaths by the day still. Ireland which started its battle against CV-19 earlier than most had its biggest amount of deaths yesterday. Every country is hurting and the last thing on their mind is summer holidays.

But, Spain, UK, Italy, France are not including those dying outside of their hospital system in the daily or total CV-19 death toll. Therefore, the situation is much worse than most think.

I would love to be saying that Covid-19 will have no more deaths from June, but the ongoing tragedy is going to continue. Earlier I read on the Facebook sister to this forum something like "As things slowly continue to get back to normal . . . "  I nearly choked on my toast. Are these people living in a parallel universe?

I guess allowing thousands of Madrid inhabitants to leave the city at the beginning of the crisis was not ‘wishy washy’ either?  So how do you, with your unsubstantiated opinion’ explain the Swedish Government approach?

I don’t.  Sweden is trying another track.  However, saw an interesting post from someone living in Sweden that seemed to indicate that in the remoter parts of Sweden, they were self-isolating anyway and its in the bigger cities they are still mixing.  Let’s see what happens there if the toll starts rapidly rising.

Population density plays a large role though.  The higher the population density, the higher the toll.

Still, I at least came right out and said this is purely my opinion .... you seem to still try to pass your opinions as if they have some authority ... strange. Never mind. Can’t be bothered to respond to your trolling anymore.  Must be sad needing attention so badly you make provocative remarks just to get a response.

Bye now.

I don't know enough about what is happening in Sweden to comment. I can keep up to date with Spain, France, USA, UK, Ireland easily.

China:- We're all fine now!!!!!!!!! and of course we believe them, well . . .

Italy:- Unprecedented Tragedy

Spain:- Unique Tragedy,

France:- Dreadful Tragedy

USA:- I Love Me Show by Donald 'Shout-Everybody-Down' Trump

UK:- Draw your own conclusions, but ignore the crowding of the Underground trains etc.

You surely are one sad individual Dario, I simply asked a question and did offer an opinion.
