There's a very, very simple response to this, and its in the form of another question.

Are you aware of how Murcia got it's first case?

I'm not sure many Spaniards* know how Murcia got its last case; never mind its first one!!!!!

*judging by their performance to date (exodus to the coast for a start)

Why don't you either ask the Spanish Government, or wait until the Spanish Government make an announcement instead of asking on a forum where absolutely no-one knows the answer..??

I thought actually a forum was for a discussion, which is why I asked the question.

I don't see any harm in speculating when things may get back to normal. It would be strange if we didn't.  My two-pennorth is as follows. 2-3 weeks ago I'd written off 2020 full-stop but with small shoots of hope appearing in Italy and Spain I'm hopeful for getting some (late) autumn sun in our holiday home in Mojacar.

I note Jet2's hope of restarting flights in June. This seems optimistic  but even if this date slips by two or three months its still a huge result in my humble opinion. My one caveat is that I suspect in a process of normalisation, international air travel will probably be the last element to be re-introduced.

Of course, any further deterioration in the situation will change all of this so lets keep everything crossed that Italy and Spain if not having turned the corner can at least see the corner. I also accept that in the big picture my current inability to visit Mojacar is a tiny inconvenience compared to the price paid by many, many thousands of people caught up in this pandemic. We'll all need something to look forward though don't we?

A sensible response to my original question.

My main fear is that todate the Spanish government and the Spaniards in general got nearly everything wrong regarding Covid-19 (mass exodus to the coast etc).

I feel that allowing some people back to work today won't help the situation either. I hope there is no Covid-19 Round 2.

But, that is just me. I trust the Irish government who have done most things right todate and our "total lockdown" has been extended to May 5th.

When all this is over, there will be a time of grieving too. The Spaniards are an emotional people.

our Belgium neighbours have just booked a flight home to Belgium for May 13th so they are hoping there will be flights!  They have been stuck here since the lockdown because they did not want to travel in a plane at the start.  but now of course they are going slightly crazy here.

Just to add my one pennies worth of unsubstantiated opinion, I don’t know if Spain will be the problem.  As has been noted, there are shoots of hope in Italy and here - even if our new infection rate has started to rise again (up to around 630 I believe now after dropping to the low 500’s)

Let’s take very VERY best case scenario which will see easing of restrictions gradually over the month of May until by start of June we are sort of back to normal - that’s a very big ask, but like I say, very very best case.....

... the issue then won’t be so much in Spain, but in visitors from countries with high population densities (i.e. UK)  with high infection rates and very weak quarantine restrictions (i.e. UK).  It’s entirely feasible that Spain, while slowly coming back to economic survivability, may close its borders to visitors from UK / USA until as such time the infection rate has dropped significantly and visitors from those countries are deemed “safe”

PLEASE NOTE: this is PURELY my opinion, completely unsubstantiated.  I have not heard this as a rumour anywhere, just my thoughts.
