Hi Gary,

Every place has advantages and disadvantages so you will have to take them all into consideration and weight them all up. You will get a good feel for the place and which area suits you best when you come out to view properties.

If you buy somewhere in the very busy area, you will be within walking distance of many restaurants and bars but you may find it to be too crowded and noisy in the Summer so you might have some sleepless nights due to the noise. If you buy near the Marina de la Torre it will be quieter but this may be preferable during the Summer. It is a further from the night life in Mojacar but it closer to Garrucha which is a very nice town with lots of restaurants, a lovely promenade and a good beach.

I have had dealings with a few agents in the area and I have found Claus van Mierlo from Nicla-Casas and Steven Howlett from VIP Almeria to be the most helpful and responsive to emails and queries. As far as solicitors are concerned, I have found Michael Davies from Davies Abagados to be very good. Some people also recommend Angela Morales. Both of these solicitors are in Mojacar.

I have tried out several currency transfer companies and I have found the Transferwise.com give the best rates so I only use them now.

I hope that this helps.

Mike

As well as a Currencies Direct account, as a result of the comments on this forum and Facebook over the last few months I have also opened a Transferwise borderless account and have found their rates fractionally better so far than CD.

Hi Mike,

As you say, we will get a better feel for the place once we visit. I like the sound of Garrucha not being too far from Marina de la Torre. Re nightlife, not after very busy, just would like to be within walking distance of a couple of restaurants / bars etc. Thanks for the legal recommendations, very much appreciated.

Regards

Gary

I think the area you mentioned Marina de la Torre, is know as Cardiac Hill, which speaks for itself. Most of Mojacar remains open during the winter months, which for me personally is the nicest time of the year there. I live in Vera Playa and will probably not venture into Mojacar now until September, as Dr Bob commented it is mayhem during July and August.

Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Hi Gary,

We have an apartment in Garrucha and can vouch that it is a very nice little town that is nicely busy all year round and also very Spanish. After holidaying in Mojacar for twenty odd years our original plan was to spend the winter months in Garrucha where there would be plenty going on (and the locals are helpful and easy to get on with). However, we've just found a villa in a quiet area of Mojacar, near La Mata, which meets my wife's dream criteria so we're going to buy it and retire there a little earlier than planned.

It's not too far from Marina golf course so has the slight disadvantage of being a little distant from most of the bars and restaurants but will be a little quieter during the main season.

My villa will be in Mojacar but my heart will be in Garrucha - I'd look there first and foremost even though it's not as pretty.

Good luck

Phil

Thanks Jas. Cardiac Hill eh........best keep clear of there then :) Thanks for the heads up.

Pleased to hear Mojacar is 'open' in the winter months. Perhaps we should broaden our area a bit though and look at Vera / Garrucha as well, which I understand is not a million miles away.

Thanks again

Gary

Hi Phil

I have heard that Garrucha is a nice place, so will definitely be including that now within our search area. I am a bit of a golfer, hence one of the reasons I was looking initially at apartments near to the golf course. We are a bit concerned about the distance to restaurants & bars, but then again I know that we are going to have to compromise somewhere along the line. My wife has suggested we just purchase a couple of bikes! I wish we were able to go out sooner than September / October as concerned prices will go up!

Thanks for your help and good luck with the purchase of your Villa (sounds great).

If you are looking at apartments, the newer developments have lifts, which means that if you are walking you will avoid the steepest part of the hill.

Hi Gary,

We recently purchased a property in Mojacar Playa, which we now rent out to long/short term visitors.

We went to see nearly every estate agent in Mojacar and found all but one of them to be very helpful.

We finally went with Price Brown Partnership who have been established in Mojacar since 1986. I would highly recommend them and in particular Elaine their sales manager.

By the way Bluesea Villas as mentioned in Rob20B's reply are a rental agent not an estate agent, however should you decide to rent I would also highly recommend Wendy and her team as we use them as our rental agent for our Mojacar property.

Good luck with your property search

Hi Gary

It has taken us a few years to take the plunge and finally we went out in April, hired a car and viewed 15 properties in a week and are in the process of buying in Vera Playa. There's a promenade which runs from Vera Playa all the way to Garrucha where there's a nice harbour and lots of lovely restaurants. Looked at Mojacar Playa and really loved it particularly Mojacar Pueblo which is beautiful and has some lovely little shops and restaurants. Marina de la Torre has amazing views from the properties we saw and we did look at some beautiful apartments BUT sadly decided it was way too steep for walking ( defo need a car or even a moped!!) further down the hill became out of our budget. VIP Almeria in Mojacar are very good, helpful and friendly without being pushy as are Tim & Jo at Olive Property Sales in Bedar. Originally we were using a Solicitor in England with a spanish dept as felt a little apprehensive going through a spanish one, but decided to go with Esther at Mundi Abogados in Vera Playa who will deal with everything from start to finish & she speaks good english, ( it really is more straight forward than you think) and we complete at end of June, only taking 8 weeks. GCEN Global Currency Exchange in Mojacar are also good.

Hope all the above helps a little and wishing you lots of luck finding your dream holiday home.

Kind regards Sandy
