You may also find the specific Brexit page on the official Spanish government website useful - they are likely to be more up to date and accurate than the current bunch of monkeys running the circus in the UK :-D

It seems that many people are buying property now intending

to retire in Spain in years to come. What happens though to people

who gain residency now but remain in the UK waiting for retirement.

Will they still be entitled to NHS treatment and Social Care in the UK

or will their entitlement to UK treatment end when their residency

in Spain commences.

Well you can’t spend more than a certain time outside Spain and retain your Residencia.  I don’t recall the exact times but if your time in Spain is less than 5 years, I believe you cannot spend more than 2 years outside and retain Residencia - it could be shorter than that.

In any event Residencia only indicates you have right to remain in Spain for more than 3 months - it does not affect health or other entitlements in the UK

Thanks Dario - therefore would we be able to spend 6 months in Spain and 6 months in the UK  as we don't want to retire to Spain just yet that's a way off I think. We are only applying for Residency to spend more time in Spain and work and live in UK.

Thanks

Tracey

I will give you a cautious “YES” on that.  My understanding is you cannot spend more than two years consecutive outside Spain.  Once you’ve had Residencia for 5 years and become a permanent resident, then that period rises to 5 years consecutive out of the country before you lose Residencia
