Having taken decision to go with BBVA, I thought I would start the process off before arriving in Spain in a few weeks.  But from looking at the website, it seemed to indicate that their accounts are not available to non-EU residents.  Although I have an Irish passport, and a house in Spain, my tax residence is the U.K..  Does anyone know if this is now a problem after Brexit?

I have recently opened a BBVA account after being told it would be free of maintenance charges as over 800€ going in every 4 weeks from my U.K. pension.  However they’ve just told me that there may be a transfer fee of 0.4% and a minimum charge of 21€ for any euro transfer from a non-eu bank.  I regularly transfer additional sums in euros from my Starling euro account into my Cajamar account with absolutely no additional charges. Has anyone else had this experience with BBVA and does it also apply to sums coming in from Wise/currenciesdirect/ Revolut?  The Cajamar online banking may be rubbish and their systems inefficient but at least I’m not being charged just to give them euros!

I had the same problem but now transfer from my UK account to BBVA via wise so no charges at the bank.

We bought our holiday apartment 4 years and our solicitor set up our bank account amongst other services. The bank originally charged €30 per quarter admin fees which are now at €40. To us it's just wasted money as we literally only use it pay all our bills. A neighbour suggested we change to...

... BBVA as there are no fees. Does anybody on here use this bank, is it easy to change, would it be a wise move? Thanks in advance.

Bin your bank and just use Wise for all transactions. You don't need a Spanish bank account.

Just looking at Wise. Have you been happy with the service?

I'm happy with Wise as a transfer tool, but prefer to have joint accounts which they don't do.

Thanks for the feedback and I believe we will also require this

Yes, brilliant for all banking services living here I don't need others, so for the past 4 years only Wise. No other banks needed.
