I commend your concern, but:-

1. A face mask is about as effective as a band-aid after being shot during the upstart of a heavy machine gun.

2. If you are infected a face mask will prevent you from passing on the virus to others during the first twelve minutes of wearing.

I know people have been struggling getting hold of masks, and the above is correct, however, i think if I was travelling back id want one too....just to be sure...

I put a video on my Facebook page yesterday, ill look for the link now, it was how to make a temporary mask out of baby wipes, looked very effective and better than nothing.. this is link I think, but if not, if you go onto Karen @ collyfer on Facebook its in my posts..

that link doesnt work but if you type in google Karen @ collyfer if just shared so it should be top post

If your worried about the circulation of air on the plane, dont, the Filtration system in modern aircraft is better than the facemasks your looking to wear, the problem on the plane will be the person near you, touching everything as they go by.

It seems that you don’t know where I can obtain a mask. Thanks for the reply but if nurses with different roles can wear masks then I’ll carry using their method and hopefully for a peace of mind I will eventually obtain a mask

I pressed the "unhelpful" button by mistake. You're right I don't know where you can get your hands on a mask. Nurses wear masks for different reasons while nursing different patients. The nurses nursing Covid-19 patients are wearing reinforced masks (not the almost useless ones that were for sale in pharmacies) and visors not to mention with the rest of the preventative clothing they wear.

But, if you think you're giving yourself extra protection, don't let me dissuade you.

Your answer to your question please dont worry i was on the flight from alicante  airport  to doncaster  on 14 march and the plane was full nobody wore face masks ..  just have to be mindful  of peoples behaviour when they cough  are sneeze ..i just made sure my hands  were sanitised when touching the tray near the seat and opening and closing the above  unit for hand luggage .. you will be fine ..

  Safe journey  kind regards

On Irish national radio in the past few minutes listeners were advised (by a medical consultant) not to wear face masks unless you have been infected. If you are infected wearing a mask will prevent you from infecting somebody else.

If you are not infected,, wearing a mask will cause you to put your hands to your face more often and puts you in a situation where you have a better chance of infecting yourself through your own hands.

Hi a normal surgical mask is not very effective against virus doesn't seal properly round you face, but still better than nothing, as if an infected person breaths on sneezes coughs on you then it will prevent Covid19 infected droplets from entering your nose and mouth,

what you need is a KN95 virus mask, this will protect you but you will have problems purchasing them as my wife found out, I had to post her some out from London where I'm stuck on lockdown,

Keep trying the pharmacy's they may re stock.

Thank goodness someone else is giving this advice. Face masks aren't the answer unless they are hospital quality. FFP13. I saw someone who had made a mask from 1 sheet of very cheap kitchen towel. Sorry but this just fosters a false sense of security.
