Thanks again Nelngaz!

I’m guessing you have a standard branch account, and not the ‘online only’ account?

In light of my experience over 13 years with two other ‘big’ Spanish banks, the BBVA free banking seems almost too good to be true, but let’s hope it will prove correct.

We were already looking at BBVA having had HUGE problems in just a few years with Cajamar. Many many problems and more and more charges. Our neighbours are ‘swallows’ and essentially just USE Cajamar for anything they can get, and they boast they’ve not paid a penny. We’ve been perfect customers for Cajamar and have begged to deposit savings and they WILL NOT ASSIST in doing that, they just keep charging more un-itemised charges.

I guess Cajamar employees get paid regardless of effort and results.

I’m still very interested to hear from any other BBVA customers. Does anybody have good or bad feedback on them?

We’d like to know the good and the bad, for example if you’re ‘online only with no charges’ is the account inferior to a normal branch account?

Do they do joint accounts with two debit cards?

Do they charge for just possessing debit cards?

Can you bank from home on a PC?

Is a mobile phone (with app) essential?

Does the account run smoothly?

Any fraudulent activity?

We’ve had no end of problems with Cajamar, and they are sooooo slooooow to react when either phoning or emailing.

When having problems with online banking I discovered with some surprise that Cajamar have separate websites for expats and native Spaniards. The Spaniards get a fully featured website…

This year they’ve modified the online EU payments process for ‘security’. There is so much to do now in a very limited space of time that it’s almost impossible to complete the transaction before they shut you down for ‘inactivity’. (extremely rude expletive here)

It’s reached the point for us now where Cajamar are deducting yearly, an amount equivalent to my month’s (pathetic) pension. There’s no way that’s going to continue.

Incidentally, I’m not expecting BBVA to be perfect, but I do want to see some signs that they care.

Also, if anyone is wondering about Solbank/Sabadell banking, there’s a useful detailed thread on here at:

Cheers me dears…

Hi Old Soldier,

The account was opened in branch by our previous landlord who works there.

It's a joint account with 2 cards.

No charge for having the cards.

You can bank via Internet banking on laptop or via the app, which I personally prefer.

No problems at all with the account so far.

If you want to speak to an advisor you can message, request a telephone callback or make an appointment online with the bank.

We recently changed address using the callback (English speaking option) and my partner has made an in-branch appointment for tomorrow.

Very happy with the bank, service, information etc. so far🤞

That’s very useful information thank you.

Do you have debit cards with no number visible? I’ve always wondered how that would work. I guess a mobile is needed to get something to promptly confirm the transaction.

Good to hear that you’ve had no problems, and that you can message them direct.

My partner's card has numbers, mine doesn't, so if buying online where you need the number I get it from the app.

I must say I've never used a banking app before and I find it so useful, but the online banking website is good too.

Good luck

Thanks so much!

I’m still interested in other BBVA customers’ opinions, good or bad.

I’m pretty sure we’ll go with them at the moment, mainly due to the strange ups and downs with Sabadell requirements. We wasted a lot of time with visits to the Vera branch recently. The need to hit a target for €700 or €800 credits monthly is pressure I can do without.

Cheers.

I noticed that earlier this year on another banking thread you mentioned looking at Cajamar. PLEASE don’t go that route, they have made our life hell which is so unnecessary when we are the perfect customer. (they just see us as a cash cow of course)

I will be delighted to shut my account with them and email all the various email addresses to let them know I’ve escaped their clutches. Appallingly slow responses to important matters, racism to your face in branch, fraudulent transactions, and ludicrous miscellaneous charges.

I think I’ve covered it all there… Phew!  :o)

I’ve just had another stunning example of Cajamar’s incompetence although I’ve always found them friendly enough in the branch.  I’ve stuck with them for nearly 20 years because they are the nearest bank to me.  But their online banking app is hopeless and they don’t put things right when they make a mistake.  They gave mea new credit card this February when I had problems using the Wefferent debit card at motorway tolls in Asturias. No mention of any charges for this so I thought all was fine.  Then in July I suddenly see they are charging me 4.99€ for this.  As I am back in the U.K. until September I can’t go into the branch to sort it out.  So I contacted them through the app and by phone and they confirmed on their messaging system that they would contact the branch and cancel the card.  Inevitably I got charged again this month so have had to phone again.they have assured me that they will cancel it now (no mention of whether they took this step in July) and will request that they refund me at least this month’s payment. I’m not holding my breath, but I can’t wait until September when I will change banks, probably to BBVA

Thanks for that, we'll probably just stick with BBVA now as I've heard lots of bad reports of Cajamar.

I still bank with Nationwide in the UK (pension connections, savings, etc) and for many years I’ve been used to THEM being alert to fraud. They’ve been very efficient at that. Not so good at savings interest of course, and just lately they’ve told me in writing they’re ‘not interested’ in non-resident customers. Pardon me for living…

And now look at Cajamar. They simply DO NOT CARE. I alerted them of potential fraud (due to a suspicious email I received) and THEY DID NOTHING. On emailing them three times (with their ridiculously slow response time) eventually I got a call from someone saying they would replace my card. They did that, THEN charged me €8 for that ‘assistance’. Three weeks or so later, THEY PAID THE FRAUDSTER I NAMED. ffs.

After constant chasing, they then took a month to refund the fraud. These people should be in the dole queue…

Get out as soon as you can em68!

Here you go.
