You can bring your RHD UK plated vehicle and drive it for 6 months, after which you are required by Spanish law to have it what they call "matriculated" which basically means you swap your UK mot for the Spanish equivalent called the ITV, if your car is younger than 10 years old at time of matriculation the new ITV is good for 2 years, you get a sticker which states the date of renewal, over ten years old the ITV needs renewing every year. As wel as having it put onto Spanish number plates.

We used CAT Services in La Alfoquua for the information and "The Garage" on the way to Albox did everything to get partners car to Pre ITV standard which firstly involved checking headlamps, some modern vehicles headlamp beams are switchable right to left etc, if they dont then you need to get LHD headlamps, partners Honda Insight Hybrid had to have new ones at approx €€495 each !! Once checked and serviced they took the car to the ITV testing staion at Lorca, we got it back with all the documentation, drove to the town hall, ayuntimento at Zurgena, paid the €30 road tax fee, drove to Albox for new number plates and were street legal.

Ok you will most likely have your Residencia, Padron and NIE if you bought a place, or even rent, the car will need to have a valid UK MOT taxed and insured, after ITV you'll need to get insurance when needed, your old UK MOT will be invalid, if you want to go back to the UK with your car, the ITV and number plates are ok. Again for up to three montgs.

You'll need to inform the DVLA about matriculation or you may get an £80 fine as partner just got on a flying visit for a few days but this is just a mix up between cat servuces and the DVLA.

From getting the information and documents you need, I'd advise using the garage or some other organisation that offers the Matriculation service, its just easier tho you can do it yourself, you would deffo need an interpreter/translator if you dont speak Spanish to a good standard.
