If you love pigs and their smells then ok, but also Horses,Pigs and Chickens mean FLIES and plenty of them, villas with bird cages to sit in give it away.

Well, yes and no. I can’t argue with your experience as it’s unique to you, but we’ve been in Spain almost a year and I’m still looking for the ‘flies’ problem. I honestly thought that any farm smells in Velez Blanco would become much stronger during July and August, but not so. Our neighbouring farms have definitely switched to mucking out their animal sheds at 3am rather than about 8am when it gets warmer, probably to minimise the smells and flies, and even then any smell dissipates in 10 minutes. Now that we’ve been here a bit longer, I now know we are hedged in by at least 5 fairly near farms.....of chicken, beef, goat and pigs. And still we don’t have a fly problem. I cant account for the lack of problems so I simply think we are especially fortunate xx

I have to agree with Chrissie we have been here for about 10 months now and having lived though our first winter and almost summer I have to say we get very little smells from the farm next to ours. Yes we do get flies but no more than any other location we have visited both town and beach. Flies are always present in Spain. The routine does change in the summer months and the workers do start earlier because of the heat. However, the smell is not prominent in the winter or summer and I think if you chose to live in the country you will get country smells, which is better than breathing in modern day smells.

Hi Paul,
Regarding the winters in Velez-Rubio: how cold exactely? We don't mind a little freeze every now and then, especially when the sun is shining.
But, still like to now what to expect in dec-jan-feb...
Kind regards,
Luc

Lovely sunny days, but the wind can be cold, single figures some days, but up to high teens.
Nights are cold, mostly just above freezing, but frosts some nights, have had minus 7.
Wood burner going from November to April at nights to be comfortable

Hi, we live in Velez Rubio and have experienced fly problems and smells. Certain areas are worse than others, private message us with the location of the house and we might be able to give you some advice.
