Thanks Ossy, will give Chrissie's a shot first as we have loads of the buggers this year. Will certainly keep your suggestion in mind though, always handy to have more than one string to your bow.

Hahaha!  Yes, I’ve heard of putting meat out to rot.  Apparently, it’s a bonus for people who keep chickens, as dead flies in quantity are a beloved delicacy in the poultry world, but obviously they can’t eat flies with nasty chemicals all over them, hence the meat idea.  I’m going to try this soon......thanks for the reminder!

Just to give you "heads up" don't put them anywhere that your dogs can get to them, they rip 'em to shreds, make a mess and then they come inside and are sick all over the floor :( 

I sense an untold story there......lol......my dog is little, so she can’t reach up into the tall shrubs or the trees anyway, thank goodness. Thanks, though!

Just a little info re prices: I bought two of these fly attractants this week from the DIY place next to the Bowling Alley in Arboleas, and the price was under 5 euros each per bottle.  Haven’t used it yet, but even if the powder isn’t as good, the bottle design will enable the flies to enter but not escape and so I can switch to a piece of meat to attract them.

This villa has now been sold.

Hi Phil just to let you no that we actually went ahead and are in the process of purchasing the villa regardless of some of the negative responses that we had we thought that as there are other properties in the vicinity it can’t be that bad we live ve in Birmingham and there are many bad smells here especially drugs being smoked at least the smells there are natural ones we have heard that the farm is kept very clean and there are hardly any flies and this information has come from a very good source so can’t wait for our new life’s to begin was wondering if anyone does dog sitting in the area also would be nice to get to meet some of the people who have posted the replies

We have a house approx 1 km away from a pig farm and have never had a problem with the smell. The farm we live near is not your average farm. The animals are contained and as for the flies well welcome to Spain. They're everywhere. What you have to realise is that living in Velez rubio is you're in the country.

Thank you for your reply we didn’t let it put us off and went ahead and purchased and hopefully we will be in our new home around sept time so glad to get another positive reply thank you
