I saw this Chris,

I am in Limbo now because I have Spanish residency and would assume I would be able to return but my partner is not a Spanish resident and has always needed to keep her UK status.

I find the logic in the decision making by European leaders baffling, why would closing borders between two nations contain a virus that both those nations have, its frustrating because I could drive there, sleep in the car on the way rather than the usual hotels, pick up fuel using automatic filling stations, take enough journey food and water and arrive at my house which is a quarter mile from my nearest neighbour and feel safe. At the moment I am in the UK in my touring caravan struggling to find places to pitch, having to shop every 3 days and wondering how the hell self isolation could work if I caught the damn thing. grrrrrr

In your position I would get in touch with your nearest spanish embassy or consulate to ask what the position is about returning together.

My U.K. citizen status is not affected by my also being a legal Spanish resident. But yes, it’s difficult for U.K. citizens that have made a home here in Spain to get back here if they have not secured residency, that has been the case for quite a few.

The reason for closing borders - and all countries are doing this, watch this space - is to allow people to leave but control entry of potentially infected legal nationals and residents. Once you enter this country you will have to self-isolate just as we are already doing.

It’s academic now I guess, as no-one will be able to get into either France or Spain by car or plane or train. The storm is about to hit the U.K.

The whole point that is driving the current measures is to slow the spread. Only then can the virus be managed/contained and deaths reduced. It is not a flu virus by the way, it is a killer and up to a quarter of a million deaths in the U.K. are predicted (Imperial College study, 17 March). Flu 🤧 can kill vulnerable people but many (like myself) take a vaccine against it. There is no vaccine for C19.
