Hi, does anybody know if petrol stations will be open during the lockdown?

I am currently in the UK but need to get home to Velez Blanco soon, I usually drive and will be doing subject to an available ferry of course, I can sleep in the car if I have to but of course will need diesel. This is a worry especially since EU leaders have said member nations locking down will not help and maybe be counter productive in that stranded people may end up spreading further rather than obtaining treatment in isolation.

Thanks, David

We to are in the uk at the moment and hope to go home to Vélez rubio at the end of the month. We plan to go through the Euro tunnel and drive the whole way but are concerned that they will close the France Spain border and leave us stranded in France. Do you think it will come to that?

Everything is up in the air at the moment with too many politicians in Europe trying to make the right noises for fear of it biting them in the arse at a later date, European policy is still to keep borders open but at the end of the day will be powerless if a individual member state closes theirs and also how can they close a border to its citizens and residents returning home??? Its all gone over the top, my view is do what you can with hygiene but if you get it you get it and we all surely will at some point.

Yes they are but payment by card may be necessary.  However, I wouldn't think of coming unless it is vitally urgent - and I mean just that!

Hi, Yes I understand that there are more cases reported in Spain than the UK but if I'm honest I think its a reporting  and testing  issue myself rather than the fact Spain is more infected, people in Spain are more likely to seek medical advise for coughs, sore throats and bad chests simply because its less usual where as in the UK winter months you are lucky if you don't get at least one of the aforementioned at least once a winter and if you are reasonably OK you just don't bother seeking help. To most people the Coronavirus will just be other uncomfortable inconvenience, its the hype and the panic that's the real problem, more people have died of the winter flu virus in the UK as per usual than have or are likely to of this.  My thoughts are be hygienic, look after your old folk and keep calm and carry on!

All appointments in health centres were cancelled today except for emergencies.  The doctor is sending the results of my analysis by internet.  Oh, and another thing.  Private clinics and hospitals must be available for everyone in case there is a shortage of beds.  That came out on the news here last night.

Cleanliness has nothing to do with this I'm afraid.  It's a virus and that is not controlled by hygiene.  Bodily contact or coughing on someone spreads a virus and soaps and antiseptics have little effect if any.  Alcohol. 70%+ is the only thing that can wipe off virus contact our skin.

Spain is closing its borders to anyone trying to get in - from midnight 16 March tonight. Just been announced. That is air, road, rail borders. If anyone is leaving (maybe to get back to Britain) they will be able to do so.

I saw this Chris,

I am in Limbo now because I have Spanish residency and would assume I would be able to return but my partner is not a Spanish resident and has always needed to keep her UK status.

I find the logic in the decision making by European leaders baffling, why would closing borders between two nations contain a virus that both those nations have, its frustrating because I could drive there, sleep in the car on the way rather than the usual hotels, pick up fuel using automatic filling stations, take enough journey food and water and arrive at my house which is a quarter mile from my nearest neighbour and feel safe. At the moment I am in the UK in my touring caravan struggling to find places to pitch, having to shop every 3 days and wondering how the hell self isolation could work if I caught the damn thing. grrrrrr

Not according to UK health experts who suggest most viruses are spread by someone touching an infected surface then using the hand to touch your own mouth, nose or eyes, this is not an air born virus therefore to catch it directly from someone you have to swap bodily fluids with them of course apart from the obvious ways of doing this an infected person would need to cough or sneeze in close proximity and you ingest or of course cough or sneeze onto a surface which you then touch and transfer to your mouth, nose or eyes.

Don't be under any illusions constant hand washing and sanitising is imperative !!!!!!
