Hi. We are permanent residents in Spain and are considering applying for the Convenio Especial. We currently have private health insurance and are both under 65. I appreciate that the costs goes up once we are 65. Are there any disadvantages to being on the Convenio? Thanks.

My husband and I are planning to live in the Velez Blanco area. Can someone tell me what are pros and cons? We are remote workers and good internet is a must. I see that humidity is very low, how does it affect people?

Good morning. Does anyone know where I might be able to hire a car locally (Veléz Blanco)? Ours is out of action at the moment. Probably need it for about a week, although it will be parked at Alicante airport most of the time. Alternatively is there someone locally who can do an airport run? TIA

Hi. We have an issue with what could be a wood-boring insect in our attic. We can hear a scratching noise but cannot find any trace of tunnels, sawdust, exit holes etc. I have tried using mothballs and spray for woodworm but no joy. It's been going on now for 4-6 weeks. Does anyone know of a company that could check this out for me? Many thanks

A very close friend of mine, Richard King, has sadly passed away from cancer, a long protracted illness that prevented him returning to his property in Velez Blanco.

Unfortunately, Richard's wife Bridget, who lives in Bristol UK, is also not in the best of health, so the stress of loosing Richard and dealing with the aftermath has taken its toll.

Bridget has asked me to help her deal with the property in Velez Blanco. As neither myself or Bridget can read or write Spanish, I have joined this forum to see if I can enlist the help of a local person to mediate between us and the property before we visit, so as to avoid any surprises.

Can or is anyone willing to help?

Hi. We were stopped by the Guardia and my green residencia card was checked. I have moved here from the Alicante area but have not updated my Residencia, which I now know that you have to by law. The officer told me to get an updated Padrón and bring it to Baza, but I am unable to find an oficina de extranjeros in Baza, only Almería. Can anyone tell me exactly where we need to go to update the address Residencia card, whether we need to make an appointment and what documents we need to bring, apart from an updated Padrón. TIA

Hello again. We are due to move to our new home in Vélez Blanco in early June. Our house is located in the campo, about 2kms from the town (Paraje Alara). Can anyone tell me what the postal arrangements are? For example, is there a local drop off point (the garage?), is there a 'care off' address, are there personal post boxes somewhere etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
