Re Visas more here

The EU's new Entry-Exit System (EES) means any Brit planning to travel to the EU will have to apply for a travel authorisation document that will allow them into the bloc (group of countries) for three years.

But every time you try to enter the EU you'll have to show a facial image and give your fingerprints, with only children under 12 exempt. Meanwhile, the system will register the date and place of entry, or refusals of entry, as well as your name and type of travel document.

The European Commission expects EES to be operational at the end of May 2023 (following delays). The website states it "will replace the current system of manual stamping of passports, which is time-consuming, does not provide reliable data on border crossings and does not allow a systematic detection of overstayers (travellers who have exceeded the maximum duration of their authorised stay)".

In July, lengthy queues built up from this need to stamp every passport, with French border officials also blamed for having a lack of staff.

The good old eu protecting its borders! shame they are not so stringent with the Illegal Immigrants seems there are no borders/checks for them

Mayday, mayday, mayday!!! So having spent nearly all week tackling Qatar Airlines customer services I finally got a replacement voucher out of them.My partner should be flying next Wednesday out of Thailand and arriving at Madrid Barajas next Thursday afternoon. Trouble is Qatar Airlines will probably stop her boarding the aircraft again unless she can show she has this 4000 euros in her account. I tried to get them to waive that requirement but can get no positive agreement of them at all.So I have been trying to raise the 4000 euros surety amount As some of you already it seems almost impossible to get this money out of a Spanish bank or financial institution,it is like trying to get blood out of a stone.Only yesterday after a failed attempt with Santander I tried La Caixa bank in Garrucha. The bank teller( usual only one about☹️😡) said yes that would be possible, all we need are your P60,proof of pension etc So I go there this morning and it's a complete turn around.Yes we can open an account for you but no way can you get a loan for at least a couple of months!! At this news I got very angry at being lied to by all and sundry. So anyone suggest how to get out of this dilemma, please.I don't have 4000 euros and it all seems crazy that all she needs is proof of support for a couple of minutes to get her past the over zealous Qatar Airline staff. Anyone come up of how we bypass this or get 4000 euro loan for only probably 1 day maximum.I did think if booking her in advance to get past the checker Surely if she just turns up at the boarding gate they wouldn't be checking everyone's financial health would they? Any advice and help appreciated!! My Tele number 711003282 or email Palo172,thanks in anticipation.

The easiest thing is to get on a plane to Thailand and marry her, then she can enter the country legally.

Apart from that, how about you give her a letter of guarantee as her sponsor.

She was booked on the 10th October and was refused a boarding pass and she didn't either have 4000 euros in cash or a credit card equivalent up to that amount. So after a lot of hassle I  eventually got Qatar to issue another visa and that's for Wednesday 26 th.She doesn't have a credit card in her name as she has shut her bank account down in Thailand as she is never going back.I have a credit card but that's irrelevant she has to provide proof that she can maintain herself during the 90 day limit of the visa not me.They don't seem interested in trying to assist her. I have tried to ask Qatar to not enforce this stupid rule but of course they are not going to break the rule by putting it down on paper.I guess they are scared that she will be refused entry into Spain and they would be liable to repatriate her back to Thailand at their expense...I think in future this is going to involve Brits as well  because the UK no longer has any Schengen rights and will be regarded as a third world country in the same way as Thailand is. I believe there has been an agreement to not enforce this rule with the UK but that's ending early next year.

The directive says all non Schengen people will have to show they can maintain themselves without the help of their hosting nation. It is set at 100 euros per person per day.I think that includes children too so a family of mum and dad and two kids on holiday in Andalusia will have to have a minimum of 5600 euros( 400 euros per day x14) in a bank account that immigration officers at Almeria,Murcia,Malaga etc can see ....Don't think that's going to do the Andalucia economy much good ☹️

Surely 90 days at €100 is €9000?

The problem with trying to bring a 'Thai Bride' into any country is that the big majority abscond shortly after arriving so the authoroties are very sceptical about EVERY case,

A friend of mine in the UK (a millionaire) had to go to 5 court tribunals taking over 2 years to get his wife and her daughter over(they married in Thailand)

and ye Gods I dont often agree with Jenni but she is bang on about you going to Thailand and marrying her there

Yes I don't know why they demanded evidence of 4000 euros instead of 9000.Bit of a mystery that!!

I have thought about a guarantee letter Jenni but not sure that they would accept it in check in desk at Qatar Airlines in Lampang airport,Thailand They seem a bit too jobsworth to me there.....Not quite sure about marriage only just getting over the last one and that was to a senorita way back in October 2005!!

If I may ask the obvious … she is not intending to return.  How is she intending to remain in Spain, considering that a visa for permanent residence can only be sought in country of origin / residence?

Even if you went to Thailand and married her, you’d still have to apply for a visa.
