Interesting and i’m glad you got yours but as I said, i’ve got No chance, as my granny was born in Scotland!    My husband is starting the process to obtain his Polish one but I don’t know what healthcare provision he would receive if any. Obviously  that means you can still ...

...take up residency under the old conditions of before Jan 21 . Are you then covered under any Eh1c card or similar or did you need private health cover?

I've looked into this, and also have an EU and UK dual nationality.   As long as you were resident in Spain before the 31 Dec20, you are entitled to all the W.A. rights, even if you become a resident under your EU passport.  That means that the UK pension uprating is protected, and S1 healthcare available after retirement age.   You will have to look into health cover up until retirement age.

I live in Ireland and received my citizenship two weeks ago after a 15 month wait but I have lived here over 25 years and my wife and son have Irish passports. I jumped the queue because I had a neighbour with some political clout in the party of the Minister but I know that there are people who ...

...have been waiting in excess of two years and I read that the Department of Justice is to write to these people with an update. It cost me in total around €1200, €150 for initial application, €950 fee when approved and then additional fees going back and forward to solicitors to get documents signed, stamped and authenticated. I then obviously have to pay the passport fee when this is possible but I may still have to travel on my UK passport until things go back to normal in the Irish passport office

Thank you,   Does Ireland have a reciprocal health arrangement with Spain as the U.K. had before Brexit? Like a health card ?       I’m asking as it won’t be Irish for my husband but trying to find out ANYTHING from Poland is a nightmare lol.  I will need to go and ask at the Polish end 🙈.

The European Health Insurance Card(EHIC) entitles you to healthcare through the public system if you become ill or injured while on a temporary stay. In some states you may have to make some payment towards the cost of the services you receive, just as residents in that state do. Such payments are non-refundable

So it depends what country you are in-if they have free healthcare then your EHiC covers you for treatment

Hi

Yes, I got an Irish Passport via my grandfather a couple of years ago, before the rush!

Think in total it cost about £750 but, worth its weight  in gold when it comes to Residency application and effects. Spousal rights etc. Finances etc.

Had to register my birth in the Uk with the Irish then applied for the passport, fairly easy IF you have all the relevant birth and death certificates to hand , which I did, fortunately,  due to one of my uncles still having Grandads Birth Certificate. A VERY old and tatty document!

Only problem now for people like yourself is that there is a very long wait for the Irish passports at the moment.

Hope this helps.

Austin and Trevor.

I can’t understand why you paid £750 for your Irish passport, I got my Irish passport within 4 weeks and it cost me £79.  I think you were robbed

The cost included registering my uk birth with the Irish Government. It was all done via the Irish Govt website, so no, I wasn’t ripped off. These are all figures shown on their website.

I got in before it got really busy. The cost was for everything I needed, birth and death certificate etc, obviously a lot more people have applied, hence the longer waiting times, but well worth it in the long run, as we are, hopefully, moving down later this year to retire.
