"firstly you never go with an Abogado/Solicitor/lawyer recommended by the Estate Agent. Conflict of Interest." I would agree that that was certainly the case 10 years ago when lawyers, developers and estate agents all had intertwined personal and financial relationships which were most definitely...

... dodgy. I don't think that it is quite such a problem now. I did a lot of research about lawyers in advance when we bought last year but still ended up going to Mundi Abogados (http://mundiabogados.com/) who had been recommended by our estate agent Paul Fullard at Next Stop Almeria. We couldn't have been more pleased. Maria, Esther and Nicoletta at Mundi Abogados are excellent, do not need chasing and deal with everything in an ethical, efficient and friendly way in English. Maria is not from the area so doesn't have those old relationships which caused such concern years ago. The "thank you" cards in their office window at the Las Buganvillas roundabout between Garrucha and Vera tell their own story.

We were taken to the notary in Vera by the lawyers. Very efficient and it all worked far better than we were led to believe might be the case.

For financial transactions we use Currencies Direct which, I suspect, give a very similar service to GCEN. As Bob has said, don't use your UK bank for transfers as that will cost you a huge amount more than necessary.

Do come back with any further questions.

For transfer I use transferwise. Fit the past few months I have monitor the  transfer fee against currency direct and is always at lease 2 cents higher event for larger amounts.

We have bought couple of properties and we use juana María ramos Aliaga (gestora). She is not a lawyer but is a technical architect and knows exactly what to do, and in the fee she would even transfer utilities and every single detail. We did not need to worry about anything.

Message me for deatails.

All the best

Hi, we are hoping to buy an apartment in the Mojacar/Turre or surrounding area and are coming over for viewings in August. We have been speaking to a Spanish bank (Bankinder) about a mortgage but can anyone recommend lawyers, conveyancers and notaries please? We have been approached by several...

... intermediaries to organise everything for us, in principle that sounds like a great idea but we are worried about using anyone who hasn't been recommended! Thanks in advance for any help :-)

Michael Davis in the Commercial Centre at Majocar is excellent. My mum who arrived 17!years ago has used him a few times and recommended him to other friends who have been very pleased. We are also using him, he is very thorough and he speaks fluent English and Spanish. He also uses his own notary.  If you would like his details then let me know.

Kind regards and good luck

No advice is better than bad advice. Colonel/Dr Bob keeps on pushing everyone to use Juan Rubio as their solicitor, Juan Rubio is not a solicitor, never has been and never will be. He is a Gestor (nearest in English, accountant). He has recently been in court regarding illegal builds in Zuregna a...

...nd for all of the time would not answer clients calls or emails and the only answer you could get from his receptionist was "he is in Almeria." Is this the type of person you want to represent you?

Blimey just shows that you should follow your own instincts .

Must admit I actually take credit card as payments , as it protects the customers from any rogue dealings. In fact I employed a web company many years back to build my site and after 8 weeks they hadn't done a damn thing. So I claimed my payment back under the (failed to comply) rule .
