I guess it’s also a great testament to Ireland’s wish to look after the diaspora (of whom I am one) and the wisdom of Ireland in choosing to remain part of Europe. I’m very proud to be Irish!

Yes all credit to Ireland for everything . The genuine people , the craic , the Guinness and incredible horses . Happy new year everyone .

It’s not being Irish that matters, it’s common sense which is not so common  amongst Brexiteers. Live Turkeys who look forward to Christmas springs to mind. And the bad news is many of them argued their ass off on this forum and wouldn’t even listen to common sense. They have got what they wished for and most of us know to be careful for what we wish. They deserve our pity or perhaps they don’t?

Wait for the “I didn’t get the Brexit I voted for” fools and the worse idiotic “Brexit is a work in progress” brigades. And then they bore us with continuous offensive “Irish” jokes!

I respect the right of people who vote according to their real beliefs but the morons who insulted good thinking contributors here deserve what they got.

I haven’t got to the south coast of England fishermen yet. They screamed for Brexit; now they can’t sell their fish. Do you remember them  shouting “Leave and then negotiate” ? They can negotiate forever now. Nobody is listening. And they never thought they’d see a poor day.

Is that the common sense that the Irish showed in the result of the FIRST reff, then were told to go back and vote again,so are the Irish MOrons.

As you and others know I voted for BREXIT and still stand by my right to vote as I choose, you might not like it but tough YOU are not eligible to vote.

Yes there are some things I do not like about the so called deal that was done BUT when you had Mother Theresa in charge and the BLOB of Westminster against Brexit what can you do.

As it happens the UK are NOT doing so badly compared to others, considering the hurdles of Brexit and then the pandemic on top

as for the Irish jokes, they have been told for donkeys(a bit like your horse tips) years and the Irish/Scots/Welssh et al tel them against each other, same as the Germans /Dutch  French/Italians

Finally for someone that IS NOT affected by Brexit you seem to carry a lot of bile

CJ, I’m glad it was you who responded to my post and let me apologise for neglecting not to have put it in a thread running parallel. I’m blaming too much New Year grog for that. You misrepresented my post on a number of fronts and I’ll try to correct your assumptions.

1. Yes we had several referenda in Ireland on EU matters. Our government were getting ahead of themselves and it seemed that the electorate wanted to take them down a peg. So our government representatives got a shock when the people reacted against them. In simple terms our MP,s were given the message not to take the populace for granted and stick with what they promised to do.  The Irish government got the message and ran the referendum again. Since then no Irish political party gained an overall majority and the government can be changed almost at any time. The system works and democracy has its faults, but it’s the best of what’s around.

2. More importantly, I have no problem with people voting for Brexit. Everybody is entitled to their opinions and that’s how it should be. Never have I said anything to the contrary. I don’t have a vote in the UK, but it’s our nearest neighbour and anything political that happens there impacts on us. I don’t have a vote in Ukraine either, but again what’s happening there impacts on Ireland. Therefore, my interest in other countries.

3. Irish Jokes - I don’t have a problem with the occasional Irish joke and I never had. But, there are those plonkers who dish out such at every given opportunity and to me that’s a bridge too far. I feel the same about racist and sexist jokes. Devo and I enjoy National Hunt racing and we enjoy the occasional racing banter. If my tips for fun betting were 100% accurate I’d be holidaying in our own villa and not an apartment and I wouldn’t be travelling Ryanair.

4. I don’t carry a lot of bile. My wish is to live and let live, life is too short. I hope we can still have that pint some day and I won’t let on anything if you want an ‘Alf instead 😉.

If I haven’t replied fully please inform me. James (jtp) might join us for that pint too. Devo could come too and you don’t have to take our racing tips.

Hi Kathy

First off I wish you all the best with your move.

Myself and my wife are slightly futher on in our journey to making the move (no pun intended).

My wife has obtained her Irish passport and we are nearly finished arranging the power of attorney to allow solicitors in Spain to do work on our behalf.

One thing I would advise is to go to the area and rent somewhere to see if you like the area and the area likes you. We lived as close as we could to being residents. We used that time to meet estate agents, look at the different areas within almeria. We talked, mostly through meeting British residents in the day, many people about living there. We have even made friends there.

Our next step is to decamp from England and start our relocation. Lots to do.

If you want to keep in touch and see how we progress ..feel free

Thank you Andy. I hope the move goes well for you two, too. You will be living the dream soon!

Everyone has been so helpful and mainly, very positive about life in Spain.

Thank you for the offer to contact you for advice if needed, that is very kind.

Hold on a minute! Irish passports are being dealt out like confetti and there are important implications once you receive one.

1. You can still hate Megan Markle and even Jeremy Clarkson too.

2. Your Panama hatted Tory friends will hate you.

3. Us Irish will love you even if you’ve never been to Ireland. If your grandchildren are good footballers, we will love you more. Didn’t we make Jack Charlton an honorary Irishman?

4. You will naturally talk up the Irish traditional breakfast over that Best Breakfast Like Granny Used to Make.

5. Your foul language skills will need to be honed.

6. You must learn to blame the Brits for everything that went wrong.

7. You must keep telling HartCJHart that he’s the reason this forum exists. He won’t believe you, of course.

8. Cheltenham Festival is sacrosanct. During March each year you must pray in the direction of Cheltenham and prey on the British bookies at the same time.

9. Start every conversation with experience of your first baby delivery and how much more you know more than the gynaecologist.

10. Feral cats, the less said the better.

11. Keep telling Biggles he’s the best poster here.

Excellent reply Matthew

Hi

I’m in Mojacar for the first, of hopefully many, winter stays and am looking for a walking group that allows dogs and a place to improve my Spanish. I arrived on Saturday and will be staying until the end of March - I love it already

Oh Matthew I don’t know who I love most on this forum …. Dario the voice of wisdom and invaluable advice …. Or you, who has me laughing my little half Irish ☘️ socks off at some of your replies! I am so delighted to say that I have finally received my Irish passport (thank you Dad) and  will be making my way to Almeria in 2023. Maybe my hubby and I will be lucky enough to meet you guys one day and have a good old chin wag. Until that day, please both keep doing what you do!
