Hello, my name is Kathy. I am 59, single (divorced) and dream of being part of an expat community in Spain. Where do I even start? I am social, creative and love animals too. I’d like to do art classes and Spanish classes. I enjoy walking with company. It’s a massive step for me, but I must summon up the courage and take that step. I’d like to hear from anyone who has independently moved to the area. Recommendation on areas which would suit my interests? Thank you for reading and I appreciate your time to give me some advice. Kathy 😊

Hi Kathy and welcome to the forum

I can see 1 problem for your future move and that is the flag you are holding,If you are British you will have to jump through many hoops to get there

Ahhh, it was the jubilee. I can get an Irish passport, my parents were both Irish.

The most important thing will then be to avail yourself of your Irish passport, as that will make your life SOOOOO much easier.

After that, you just need to decide whether you want to live by the sea (Mojácar) or inland (Urcal / Albox). The places I have mentioned all have very active migrant communities, with plenty of bars / restaurants to suit your taste as well

Hold on a minute! Irish passports are being dealt out like confetti and there are important implications once you receive one.

1. You can still hate Megan Markle and even Jeremy Clarkson too.

2. Your Panama hatted Tory friends will hate you.

3. Us Irish will love you even if you’ve never been to Ireland. If your grandchildren are good footballers, we will love you more. Didn’t we make Jack Charlton an honorary Irishman?

4. You will naturally talk up the Irish traditional breakfast over that Best Breakfast Like Granny Used to Make.

5. Your foul language skills will need to be honed.

6. You must learn to blame the Brits for everything that went wrong.

7. You must keep telling HartCJHart that he’s the reason this forum exists. He won’t believe you, of course.

8. Cheltenham Festival is sacrosanct. During March each year you must pray in the direction of Cheltenham and prey on the British bookies at the same time.

9. Start every conversation with experience of your first baby delivery and how much more you know more than the gynaecologist.

10. Feral cats, the less said the better.

11. Keep telling Biggles he’s the best poster here.

Thank you Matthew 😂. I’m really looking forward to progressing with my plan now 😂. I think I can handle all the implications, no 5 might prove a little difficult 😬. As long as I can get both black and white pudding, I will survive ( they are traditionally Irish breakfast ingredients, just to clarify for others).

Kathy, Apologies for being flippant earlier. Yours is a serious subject. You are a team of one, obviously vulnerable and about to seek a major life change.

1. Mojacar Playa sticks out as a suitable location for you.

2. It is well patrolled by the local police and their presence is noticeable.

3. I recommend you rent in a gated urbanisation while deciding on a more permanent place.

4. Others are in your position too. I think you will make new friends easily.

Antos at Las Buganvillas do an AWESOME full Irish breakfast for 7,50€ with both black and white pudding 😁

And yes, I’d agree with Matthew - Mojácar Playa would be a great place.

The white is best though, especially the Galtee white pudding
