Hi I am about to begin the process of applying for Spanish  residencia and wondered if anyone can recommend a health insurance company which are flexible with someone who has had both a heart bye-pass and cancer. I’m fit now and have been for four years but have already been turned down by one company. Thanks Andy

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I’m 63 so not quite pensionable age yet. I did get a quote but it was 350 euros a month. I’m starting to think I’ll have to accept that quote and swallow hard!! Thanks for your suggestion appreciate it. Andy

We are having the same problem. My partner had a stent in 2013 and a balloon 8n 2019. I had early stage breast cancer in 2017. Both of us have been given the all clear and lead normal lives but struggling to find Spanish healthcare insurers to accept us. There’s no way we’d be able to pay 350 euros a month for the pleasure :(

Well we have insurance with DVK in Malaga and basically they didn’t ask about our history. This means we got a decent price but of course if pre-existing health issues cause a problem in the future you won’t be covered. I have two years before retirement and have taken the ‘risk‘ that these problems won’t come back before then. Once Officially retired the Spanish health service will look after this. In the meantime worst case would be a return to the U.K. and the NHS.

...yes of course pre existing conditions wouldnt be covered no matter which insurance. I find it strange that they didnt ask you for your medical history though by way of a health questionaire...mmm

I believe that their policy was to accept anyone on the basis that pre-conditions were excluded. They are effectively protected by their terms and conditions. I dare say that  this changes according to whether they need more members. I told them about my previous cancer and expected them to decline to offer me a policy but they didn't. Mind you so far I have never used their services so perhaps they made a good business decision!

That's reassuring to know but I wrongfully assumed that all health insurance companies would operate on similar acceptance policies..obviously not! :)
