Just moved to Marina de la Torre area is it better to register with the Mojacar surgery or the Garrucha one?  I understand neither have English speaking doctors.  We have been very lucky in Arboleas having had an English speaking doctor there for the last 15 years and an excellent receptionist who has learnt more English than we have Spanish in the same time.

Not true that there are no English speaking doctors in Garrucha.

My doctor, Maria Jose Gomez speaks better English than most English.  I have been her patient for more than 15years, not many Spanish only speaking doctors stay that long.

Thank you Senoramyra that is good news.  We were told at the Town Hall in Mojacar that we'd be better to register with Garrucha but not to expect any English to be spoken.  We will try to register with Dr Maria.

Hi Alicia.

You won't be disappointed.  By the way her Christian name, by which she's known, is Maria Jose.  Good luck in your move, Garrucha is lovely.

This is great info. After having a bad accident 2 years ago I went to the hospital in Huercal Overa where I had a traumatic experience because I didn't  know of any doctors near us.  Every time we go to Spain now I worry in case anything happens and I have to go back to that hospital.

sorry to say Pat63 that there is not always an English speaking doc at any of the surgerys in Mojacar or Garrucha.  It is expected that you bring your own translator with you or try to use Google translate.  Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at the hospital both myself and my husband have had to use both the A & E and the intensive care and surgical sides and we have had varied experiences of language trouble but could not fault the treatment received.

if you need a translator then I can recommend Ana Para who lives in the village in Mojacar PM me for her details

Indeed - and I note at H-O hospital big signs everywhere stressing the need to bring a translator if your Spanish isn’t up to the task of speaking to the medical staff
