we moved down from France about 18 months ago and we lived the other side of Bordeaux and the medical care is great but the winters are bad we have had -16 degrees more than once, i would never just use one estate agent we are moving and went into maybe a dozen before choosing and the cost of living in Spain is much lower than France. finding what we wanted

I just feel that a lot of people are fooled by the TV about the Almeria area in particular, the drive for instance from San Juan to Albox is soul destroying .We stayed in a villa at San Juan for 2 months Jan to end Feb the water was off at least twice a week and if we had not had a small pool and used that water to flush the loo .l dont know what we would have done .?

The tv reception was despicable ,and l dont think we saw one river with any water in it. The amount of camper vans parked up in San Juan and emptying ther waist into the scrub ans small woods near the beach was abhorrent to us and surely to you also ?  

l am sure you love it mate but l feel that not all the prospective customers are informed properly and once a purchase has been made it is to late,

l would advise anybody to spend at least a couple of months in the area before committing.

Fully understand how you love it Darios  and l assume your choice was well  thought out but when l see how many older people move there with no idea how they will cope when they are ill l find it a bit worrying ,by the way Darios our neighbor in San Juan Carman/Jon told us the water  being turned of was a regular thing ,but maybe not where you live,

No problems Ray, I just approach things differently I guess.  TV reception doesn’t worry me - I really don’t watch much TV, if I do, it’s the local channels..... no problems there.

Different areas appeal to different people.  There are many on here who love SJ, also Albox, Urcal etc etc.  Now, for me, I love being here in Vera - it suits me perfectly.  I love the town, the people, the way of life, yet I’m sure others may not be quite so enamoured with Vera; such is life.

We are all individuals, we approach everything we do in life in a completely unique way, and a way that is comfortable to us.  Some may choose to look around, rent, move about; yet others will set their hearts on an area and plunge headlong in - that’s what makes us all human.  

TV shows, unfortunately, play to our human-ness :-D  .... I think it is important to remember that no matter the TV show, there is NO such beast as “Real” TV - Reality shows are anything but!!   A TV show is there, primarily for entertainment .... giving honest guidance comes a very very poor second (or even third!!). I’ve never bothered watching the show that raised your ire and indeed led to your experience of this wonderful country being soured - but I am sure that it falls within the category of “Entertainment first” .... with these words, I hope that anyone else following this thread will bear that in mind and also take Rays very good advice - don’t just see an area on TV and go for it .... rent in your chosen area, get a feel for it for a few months .... then decide.

I will indeed Chris have had a brilliant conversation with Darios ,and will admit that where he lives Vera was one of the only places we felt we could have lived in,anyway you all enjoy your chosen paths we will also here in France.

Might be best if you stay there, I don't think Almeria is quite ready for you and visa versa....

Conversations on this thread are all over the place. So, somebody looking in could think most on the forum are stark raving mad. I think this thread is about Estate Agents. We've gone onto "reality" tv programmes, stay before you pay property advice, somebody else is up some unponderable rear. The thread has become like some live debate in a bar frequented by deranged football supporters who know nothing about football and closing time is nigh. Everybody appears to have taken on board an excess amount of substandard beer and is pontificating property values like the market is going to perform astoundingly well immediately while looking forward to bingo the next night.

Your point being? You have now given this thread yet another twist by holding forth on your thoughts on what everyone else is saying :-D
