This may seem a bit brusque, but:

(1). You’re in Mojacar.  Have you done a winter yet?   Unlike the UK you may not need central heating.  Try one winter and see before you buy CH.  I’m in the Playa and installed a log burner.  Lovely heat (and lovely to watch) and warms the house sufficiently.  Being British, bit of cold at night in bed suits.  But that’s a personal choice and I imagine over time you/we might get less robust to cold

(2). Green solutions?  Even in darkest midwinter it’s warm for 4 or 5 hours.  At least, here

Your point is certainly valid. I guess my considerations in regard to this are based on the works that I have to do on the property anyway and it was suggested to me that it was something to think about.

I have not been here in December or January on a continual basis. Apart from that I have been here for the rest of the there although not in a permanent basis.

if you are renovating your property perhaps also consider looking at alternative 'green' solutions..

our only source of heat is a log burner, but we have found it chilly during the winter months, and we cant sleep during the summer as we don't have air con.

so as well as properly insulating the house, we are considering an air source heat pump which provides heating and cooling and are very energy efficient.
