Living and taxes in Spain
Hi,
Myself and my wife are considering moving to Spain before year end. We are both nearing retirement age and have been fortunate enough to have a couple of properties and some savings/cash in ISAs live in a house of a reasonable high value near London bought long ago (not worth millions but enough with the other properties to mean that we would fall into the wealth tax bracket, although very much at the lower end). We would like to have a similar property in Spain.
Having looked at the tax position in Spain I think we would be very much worse off in that we would be hit by the following
Taxes etc purchasing a property of around 13% (4 bed villa similar to our property in the UK)
Taxes on funds taken from our UK ISAs
Wealth tax
Higher income taxes than the UK
We would also have health insurance
I am not certain that I have fully understood the tax position but it seems that we will be taxed far higher than the UK.
Also, I understand that these are the days of 1.10 Euro to the pound rather than 1.40 but is Spain (Almeria/Alicante/Murcia) more expensive than the UK now?
Is moving to Spain such a financial burden that it defeats the object? Any input would be most appreciated.
