My wife and I have crossed on Galicia four times this year and, with the exception of the reference to diesel fumes which we did not experience, can confirm most of what other people are writing about the ship.  Between May and October, all our crossings were smooth.  The lanes on the s...

...pacious car deck are wider, allowing for growing vehicle sizes.  The rest of the ship was a huge disappointment and I let Brittany Ferries know about it after our first trip.  Commodore Class cabins are nothing short of a 'rip-off'; a basic cabin with a tea & coffee tray, two bottles of water, a BF pen, and a slightly larger TV screen.  No space, no fridge, no safe, and only one "chair" (more like a stool) that tips over when you lean back on it.  Whoever was responsible for the selection of the furniture needs to go back to basics, looking at 'function before design'.  The furniture in both the restaurant and the lounges just doesn't fit, it's the wrong height, size and shape for tables.  Two lifts, one at each end of the ship, only one of which, for passengers, goes to deck nine.  That in itself does not affect walking distances but the reduced capacity does have an impact on waiting, particularly at busy times.   Even allowing for Covid restrictions the food was pretty awful.  From the servery, on every journey, the 'hot' food was barely warm and definitely cold by the time one had got seated.  I doubt whether we shall ever see the famous Brittany Ferries cold buffet ever again.  We spent almost the whole of our four crossings in the Commodore Lounge where the food was of better quality; it was quiet and restful there for most of the time and definitely worth the extra money if it is not included in your cabin price.

For two of our crossings next year we are booked on Salamanca.  The ship looks to be very similar to Galacia but remembering the luxury on Bretagne, we shall have to stick with it to avoid driving through France.

Very useful review, thanks! We’re coming over on Galicia for the first time next Thursday. What are the dining arrangements like for the inclusive meal in terms of Covid safety? Is it a self-service set up and do you have to share tables with other passengers?

The breakfast was cafeteria-style, select and pick up your choices from the servery, find a table, sit down and eat.  Coffee, Tea, etc. was available from separate drinks machines of which there were several.  The dinner arrangement was different.  Each cabin was allocated a sitting time to allow for social distancing, your allocated time being shown on your cabin key.  From the eventual queue that formed for each sitting passengers were shown to a table, not shared but set up as for the normal restaurant at which there was table service.  Orders for drinks and food were taken at the table.  Payment for drinks and any extras not included with the main meal of three courses was made on the way out as before.  If I remember correctly the sittings were spaced at 45 minutes from the time the restaurant opened until everyone had been served so there was some overlap.  The crew would not change a sitting time but were reasonably helpful if your given time was not suitable and the ship was not crowded.  On one crossing we were given a 21.00 time which was far too late for us to eat but we were able to get in at 19.30 as the ship was only half full.   We had lunch in the Commodore lounge where appropriate cold buffet food (cold meats, salads, cakes, desserts) is available most of the day.  You can also get breakfast in there too, the "hot" food being brought up from the servery to order.

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I think 21.00 would be too late for us to eat as well! The sailing is ‘sold out’, so l expect we’ll have to stick to the time we’re given.
