Spanish Govt and University experts have said that they believe June/July will be the very earliest that they will start to come out of this, and  lockdown could potentially be lifted then . Now, personally, i dont want to be one of the first out of the 'cave' to be cannon-fodder for wave no...

I might be over dramatising this, but i'm probably not far from the truth- especially when i'm in the high risk age group.

Personally, i would rather just ride out the storm from my bunker in UK, and wait for vaccine and look forward to Mojacar in Mar onwards in 2021.

Stu,

Very sensible view and like the rest of the world, I will be guided by Government    advice, whenever that takes its course.

In the meantime, stay safe and healthy.

Hi Sandra, Snap!

I'm 62 and had planned to be out there from April to San Juan de Los Terreros having been in Turre/Mojacar at the start of the year but due to Coronavirus I have had to return home for the foreseeable. Let's hope we can get out there again soon. Keep in touch and maybe we could meet in due course...

...! All the very best #stayhome #staysafe XX

Hi Jacqueline ( sorry I don't know the name you prefer to be called)

It will probably be next year before I get to Mojacar again. I haven't been to San Juan de Los Terreros, although I have looked at it on-line, is it an area you would recommend to live permanently ?

It will depend on whether COVID 19 is under control and all restrictions have been lifted, plus as my plans to move there may be scuppered due to the financial security the Spannish Goverment will be asking for regarding retirees monthly/annual income.

I hope you are safe and well and remain so.

Best wishes

Sandra.

I have paid a deposit on a rental until end of June so hoping I may get at least 4 weeks there Sandra although my estate agent has agreed to return my deposit if that is not possible. I still want to keep my home in UK so just plan to rent (I think!) unless I see an absolute bargain! Stay safe and take care, sending best wishes, Lynne x

Hi Sandra, you may still be in luck regarding moving to Spain, as COVID 19 has dealt a mortal blow globally Brexit transition will almost certainly have to be re scheduled to after the 31 December 2020, this gives you a bit more time to get residency before the Spanish gov implement the income requirements etc.

I am a uk resident work in the uk but was planning to become a Spanish resident before Dec 2020 to avoid the same, like lots of brits who have lived in Spain many years but not bothered to become a resident until now and there is a huge waiting list because of this.

Myself and Lisa have owned property's there for the last 8 years Veraplaya and south side of Vera town, Lisa has lived there for the last 4 years, there are lots of nice places Mojacar being the most touristy too busy in the summer, but Villaricos, Garrucha, Puerto Ray, Palomares, and more are ok if you dont drive, there are buses.

Lisa to become a resident needed quite a lot, NIE number, Spanish bank account with money going in and out as proof of income, proof of where she lived and more, with the help of the Spanish accountant Lisa got residency,

If you decide to go ahead Lisa and Myself would help and can put you in touch with Lisa as she can tell you first hand what you will need to accomplish this,

The COVID 19 lockdown is a problem but when travel restrictions are lifted I intend to return asap and become a resident before the Brexit transition, as I believe it will be more difficult after though not impossible,

We were originally from the NW England, Near Manchester well if we can help would be happy to do so,

keep safe Lisa and Mel.

Hi Derek, yes you are right however they are pushing for more time as I just saw, "Coronavirus crisis demands extended Brexit transition, Pandemic is testing British and EU national administrative systems to the limit" no its not extended yet and Brexit transition discussions have not taken place, or put on the back burner because of global COVID 19 pandemic, so lets hope for the people who could use more time they get it, it wont matter to me as I will still be able to get Spanish residency, but its not me I'm hoping for its the people who need more time, hope all goes well for them,

Our pro-Brexit government have not been known for their reasoned and sensible approach to Europe (in my opinion) so I really would expect nothing else. It’s one of the many reasons I wish to move to Spain! Like many others I will be doing everything possible to secure my residency before the deadline. To all others in my position good luck!

Hi Andy, well said and I agree, just for those who have not opened the link,

Officially, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his government have no plans to ask the EU for an extension beyond December 31 of the transition period governing EU-UK relations under Brexit.

Unofficially, such plans do exist, for it is clear that the coronavirus pandemic is consuming all government attention and making it impossible to conduct proper, detailed discussions on the long-term EU-UK relationship.

Well we live in hope, best wishes and good luck to all.

Keep safe Mel and Lisa.

Hi Lisa and Mel. Thank you so much for your informative reply and your kind offer of help which is very much appreciated. I’m also from the North West, I was brought up in Droylsden & Audenshaw but now live near Chorley. Thank you again and best wishes.

Hi Sandra hope your plans moving to Spain all come good. My wife and I live in roquetas de Mar about 90 mins up the coast from majacar. We lived here almost 4 yrs now and love it. Its a very nice place to settle with a good bus service, loads of bars and restaurants and all the other amenities that you would need. BTW i was also brought up in Droylsden. Small world.
