My solicitor is submitting our residency application to the police in Almeria next week. Does anyone know how quickly these are being processed at the moment and when we are likely to be called in?

You get an appointment at the oficina in Almeria, which you will have to attend, with either your solicitor or translator if you don’t speak Spanish AND all your paperwork, copies and originals.

Yes our solicitor is submitting the papers next week. My question is how quickly are we likely to get the appointment in Almeria because we have to go back to UK for a while to sort out the sale of our house.

Sorry, I didn’t realised it worked like that. In the ‘old’ days you went online, got an appointment and that is when you submitted your paperwork.
Out of curiosity who is your solicitor?

It’s more mundiaabogados by the Buganvillas roundabout. It’s all changed I think because of the withdrawal agreement.

I didn’t think it could be submitted on your behalf as you have to now attend for fingerprints first - unless you have already done that and fingerprints are being submitted?
Looking at others, I’d guess you have a 1 to 2 month wait until you are called back to pick up your TIE

The new rules are that ONLY ABOGADOS or authorised representatives can submit the papers. The police then check and assuming it’s all ok you then go the designated police station (Almeria here) for fingerprinting. Or at least that’s how I understand it.

Ah right - thanks Andy; so that prevents people doing it themselves. Once paperwork submitted then you shouldn’t have long to wait to go for fingerprints

Well they know the law and I was told the police have to respond within 3 months but she’d no idea whether I’m likely to h at on a week, 6 weeks or three months. I guess lockdown means there’s a backlog and that actually no one knows the answer!
My concern is we’ll go back to the U.K. and then be called! But if it happens it happens! Well just have to jump on a plane and come back!!
I love Spain but I’ve learnt their bureaucracy is not very flexible and you have to do things by the book!
