We buy any car are rip off merchants in my view, a couple of years ago I bought a 7 seater people carrier, paid nearly £1300 and out of curiosity put the registration in and got £700 as their offer. All within a few days.

A year later that became £175 !!.

Wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.

Everyones circumstances are different and the two instances here illustrate that.

I could still have got the £200 scrap offer at the time had I wanted to get shut but I got almost two years with the vehicle and still got what we buy any car originally offered.

I will second that Chevvy. Would not use them even for a scrap banger as their valuations are a joke. I once drove a car until it became a bit long in the tooth and they actually offered me less than the going rate from the scrapman.

You can try it online with any car registration and they have no idea..and not only that they always find something to knock even more off the value when you take it in....like a scuffed alloy or scratch on the bonnet.....of a ten year old car.....now I mean, who ever would of thought eh?

Hope you and your family are keeping well,

Kev.

Webuyanycar - don't make me laugh. Only those who need money quick would ever need to use them is my view.

Offered me a derisory amount for my low mileage Audi A3 which I sold private for £1000's more. Same re my Q3 (wanted a good laugh!) for which a dealer came from over 200miles by train and paid me considerably more.

I've see the report on their 'examination' when you visit their site. They then knock off money for what I like others probably consider par for course wear and tear...

Their offer on my wife's VW GT was better but got more in trade in against a Fiat 500 we are bringing over to Spain this year.

I've bought LHD headlights in the UK from Italy for the swap and I'll keep the RHD ones just in case it ever goes back to family in the UK.

Best regards to everyone

We had the same problem deciding, but only two weeks to get here.

There are small dealers that will take a uk car in px, main dealers usually will not.

You will not get a lot for it, all the excuses etc

Had we had time we would have sold our car in the uk and probably hired a car to drive here (we had to travel this way to bring our dog to Spain) would have been infinitely cheaper than the massive loss we had to take on our three year old car which only had 15k mileage on it. We lost 3 grand on the sale price over the uk prices. Because we were permanently moving and buying a villa here you only get one month to get rid of the uk car or convert it to Spanish reg, and that's expensive.

Whatever hearsay you here about uk converted cars understand this, quite rightly the Guardia Civil do not like them. Why should you drive with the steering wheel on the wrong side they do not like it. If you feel brave and think you will not be picked on, fine. We wouldn't take that chance.

Buy a lh drive car, be safe, be legal. There is enough to contend with without being nervous of road blocks.

We have a neighbour that flouts the law and so far for the last 18 months he has got away with driving his rh drive car here as a resident. Many ex pats do this.

We would not break the law or indeed run the risk.

Go legal get rid of your car, hire one on a on way basis and buy a Spanish car. Hope this helps you to decide.

Hello!

I had my RHD car re- matriculated to Spanish plates and have been stopped twice in 4  Years; I was never fined or faced any problem with the police as the car was legally registered here in Spain. The reason I chose to re-matriculate my car was:

a) My car (which I’d driven over from the Uk) was in good condition and mechanically sound despite it’s age (2005 Reg)

b) The price of second hand cars is expensive  compared to the Uk

c) Therefore for me, the best option was to re-matriculate as it was the best option all round.

The process of changing over to Spanish plates I would say is time consuming, but not daunting, and costs vary depending on the model of the car eg: I have a Japanese brand car, therefore changing the lights was a financial factor, which may not be for other model of cars.

Hope this helps

Hi

I have used them twice here in Scotland and had no problems with valuations. I have just entered my Renault Megan 2012 plate onto their system and should get £5300 for it. Yes they knock off for scrapped wheel trims but generally not much and the money is in your account safely in a few days. Maybe they are not so good in England...

I can only comment as I found them - I was literally £1000's better off selling private. I gave feedback to this effect and their later adverts more or less admit you can get more but play on the 'but do you want the hassle' angle.

If your happy with them then all's good.

However, knocking money off for scraped wheel trims on a 2012 car that is by definition used and will show 'fair wear and tear' is part of my point - My view is it needs to be factored into their offer price in the first place, as very very few used cars are ever unmarked are they?

The expose here in the UK majored on this and WBAC made a comment to the effect that their staff had been overzealous in making reductions - no ones mentioned this being driven by a staff bonus system........

Class discuss?

Hi there,

Do you have details of the Kia Sportage  or could you ask them to get in touch - we have a 2006 SEAT Altea 2.0TDI with DRG auto gearbox on UK plates. We would be looking for another automatic car so no need to reply if Kia is manual.

Thanks,

Gill

Thanks

Bit of an odd question I know, but has anyone here drove their car over from the uk and then got rid of it when the time has come to get a Spanish l/h/drive car on Spanish plates? We are planning on loading up the car and driving over when we move in May. I understand the process of converting to...

... Spanish plates and the tax is time consuming and a bit pricey so would be better off buying a second hand Spanish car.

I would have thought part exchange is virtually unheard of, as who would want a british car anyway and what would a garage do with it?  Would I need to advertise it locally and see if someone going back to Britain would buy it to take it back or would I just have to scrap it and take the hit? Its a 2004 Lexus IS200 and would seem a shame to just scrap it.

Hope everyone is having a good time this Christmas

Best wishes,

Kev.

Second hand cars are very expensive in Spain and I find driving a right hand drive car no problem at all. I noticed a green Lexus is200 on Valle del Este the other day is that yours?! I had one that colour and along with my other Lexus where the most reliable cars I ever owned. Of course because it’s an old car it won’t cost much to import. I’d consider keeping it if it’s still reliable

No not my Lexus although I have owned 2 is200 and both where really comfortable and well equiped would have one anytime but we have a dog and need an estate. I am getting rid of my Renault Megane convertible as we have a Spanish car now and don’t need both.
