Hi Pamela,thanks for the reply.

Well the details of the car are as follows.

2004 Lexus is200 petrol 2 litre 4 door. We purchased the car last May as we needed something a little more reliable than the car we had at the time. We paid £2750 for it as its a luxury type car with around 84000 miles on the clock with some service history. Its had a new cam belt, water pump and associated belts that go with it. Full cream leather with heated seats and is very tidy both inside and out. No rust etc and the engine looks mint. Usual scuffs and scratches for the age of the car but nothing that cant be sorted with a garage or cleaned up yourself ( I could never be bothered with stuff like that as a car is a means of getting from a to b for us)

Sunroof, electric windows, air conditioning, 6 disk CD player, electric seats.

These cars will last forever and do hold their value over here.

Would be looking at around 700 euros for a quick sale.

Its dark metallic blue in colour and will have a full british MOT in May. I know its reliable because we have never had any trouble with it and we will be driving it over in May.

Can send photos (once I have given it a wash :)

Regards,

Kev.

Hi buddy, yeah still have the car only I will be driving it over around april/may time, If you cant hang on until then its fine. I was putting the feelers out to see if people would take it before I brought it out.

Its a good motor and well worth the money.

Cheers Kev.

We brought partners Honda Insight Hybrid down from Essex last January/February and had it matriculated, headlamps cost just short of €500 each !!, tax with it being a petrol electric hybrid is €30 for the year, the relative newness, ie under 10 years old means the ITV is valid for two years !  Surely if running a rhd vehicle here is a problem it would have been made plain at some stage.

I wouldnt think twice about going the same route again, to make a point, my next ideal vehicle will be a japanese import into the UK that is most likely rhd only and as above and below I'll drive it, get it matriculated and not worry one bit.

Dont understand horror stories about the Guardia hating rhd vehicles, we live in Urcal and are in and out of Huercal Overa, up and down the A7/E15 doing airport trips, Murcia, Lorca, Albox etc etc doing shopping trips market days etc, all where there is a police presence, all on a regular basis, the ITV and ECO stickers are plain to see, we/I drive safely and sensibly, tho two friends have fallen foul of the local unmarked cars here and there by crossing solid white lines and attracting on the spot fines.

There have been random spot check stops, school crossing stops etc all with Guardia and policia local presence without us being stopped. The biggest issue might be when to get a Spanish driving licence, currently as we understand it we have up to two years from gainjng Residencia, and that's info garnered from a .gov website.

Granted, buying a lhd vehicle in the UK to bring and drive in Spain would seem to make sense but whichever way one goes and does it it would seem part exchanging your vehicle in the UK might save some money, but you'll still have to get any vehicle matriculated just to get the correct windscreen sticker and ITV/MOT. Irrespective of how long a UK mot is valid for and you'll still need valid Spanish road tax if any newly purchased vehicle is on Spanish plates or not. The Guardia and policia local both have links to/with the DVLA and use NPR just as much here as in the UK.

As I understand it, taking a UK rhd vehicle back to the UK you'd have the reverse problems if it's been matriculated, ie road legal in Spain, headlights, road tax, MOT etc and only have 3 months to get everything changed.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

As for driving standards and safety on Spanish roads, given that seemingly most of the Spanish drivers both male and female, young and old dont know what indicators are for nor how to use them, being wary of speedsters especially on motorways day and nite, and using mirrors probably more here than in the UK is a definite given be your vehicle rhd or lhd.

I have extra mirrors, the convex kind on partners Honda that help with vehicle proximity on our left side, a speeding car in that kind of blind spot situation is just as difficult to spot in either type of vehicle. It's a matter of being visually very aware.

Bit of an odd question I know, but has anyone here drove their car over from the uk and then got rid of it when the time has come to get a Spanish l/h/drive car on Spanish plates? We are planning on loading up the car and driving over when we move in May. I understand the process of converting to...

... Spanish plates and the tax is time consuming and a bit pricey so would be better off buying a second hand Spanish car.

I would have thought part exchange is virtually unheard of, as who would want a british car anyway and what would a garage do with it?  Would I need to advertise it locally and see if someone going back to Britain would buy it to take it back or would I just have to scrap it and take the hit? Its a 2004 Lexus IS200 and would seem a shame to just scrap it.

Hope everyone is having a good time this Christmas

Best wishes,

Kev.

Hi

In Scotland we have used we buy any car to get rid of your car quickly the money is in your account in a few days and they generally give you a good price if your car is in good condition.

We buy any car are rip off merchants in my view, a couple of years ago I bought a 7 seater people carrier, paid nearly £1300 and out of curiosity put the registration in and got £700 as their offer. All within a few days.

A year later that became £175 !!.

Wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.

Everyones circumstances are different and the two instances here illustrate that.

I could still have got the £200 scrap offer at the time had I wanted to get shut but I got almost two years with the vehicle and still got what we buy any car originally offered.
