I would aim to do the PCR in Zaragoza.  The Mapfre Centros always do these tests and there is one in every large city.  You might have to book an appointment though.  Why not Google - Zaragoza pruebas PCR Covid 19- and see what comes up?  It's a great place to overnight too with plenty of hotels.  Personally,  I would never trust anyone in Spain to text me my results as someone previously suggested.

To keep up to date with requirements, I would always refer to the official Government website

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england

Lots of useful info and of course it depends on your route/mode of travel.

Specifically about type of test, it currently states:

Test providers and type of test

You will need to find a test provider. You must make sure that the test provider can meet the standards for pre-departure testing.

The test must meet performance standards of ≥97% specificity, ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.

This could include tests such as:

  • a nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests
  • an antigen test, such as a test from a lateral flow device

It’s your responsibility to ensure the test meets the minimum standards for sensitivity, specificity and viral load details. You must check with your test provider that it meets those standards.

You may not be able to travel if the test does not meet these standards. It’s your responsibility to ensure you get the right test that meets the above requirements.

I'm currently in the process of organising a test in Albox and waiting to see if theirs comply with the requirements.

Hope this helps.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

The Albox clinic is still 48 hours for the results I'm afraid.

And with possible new announcements due by the UK Government, the clinic has advised that it's most likely that by the time I fly only a PCR test will be accepted. This will cost €130.

How do you receive the results of the test?

The requirement is the test be no more than 72 hours before the flight. Does it mean the results need to be 72 hours before the flight or the test itself 72 hours before flight?

The testing places say results are in 48 hours, so does that mean you get the results about 24 hours before flying?  Isn't that very very tight and risky in case the results don't arrive on time?

Also, what happens if the result comes back positive and it is 24 hours or less before the flight?  You cant fly and must scramble to quickly find an alternative place to stay?

It depends where you get the test done, but I think most places can send the results to your phone or you go and collect the results. Some places offer 24 hour results.

For example, if you travel directly to England on Friday, you must take the test on the Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
