I believe the Starling debit card  which comes with the account (its a card that you switch between pounds and your euro starling account on the app) has free withdrawals upto a limit - direct debits are all free

speaking Santander helpline. Spoke to a very nice young man who was

able to look at our account and give us its status, however said we will have

to return to sort it.

Are there Starling banks about,I have never seen one? If you go any Spanish bank.... say Santander,then they will charge you a fee and so will the ATM provider which isn't the same thing.I think I was getting charged something like 6 euros a transaction even though it was supposed to be free.Only checking the statements later do you realise a fee was taken...

I have been very happy with the Cajamar in Mojacar. No charges and run the account online and on my smart phone in English from the UK as stuck here... There is telephone support in English if needed.

Very helpful staff in the branch if you are prepared to wait (its Spain). Maria on right hand desk as you go in speaks good English.
