Many thanks, good info, no problem with private cars, good idea if we can help each other and get some extra cash from it. Hope it's ok to say that on the forum ?, which already after a few days has been a good source of information.

If you are going to be here for a minimum of 6 months, would it not be better to buy a car yourself? You then have transport for getting round and could pick friends and relatives up yourself.
Insurance is similar to UK, tax is cheaper and if you are coming and going a few times you can get a yearly parking contract at the airports. Journey is straightforward from the airport, AP-7 will take you from San Javier right down to Vera in a little over an hour.
