Thank you so much Bob and Sandra. It is Madrid we are particularly worried about and saw an alternative route coming down past Valencia. How is it driving through France? And approximately how many days do you allow? Lastly is it easy crossing the Pyrenees? Also nervous of this as it will likely ...

...be November. Thank you again.

Debra

Hi again,

As we are in a motor home we only travel about 200km max/day and less if we have something specific we want to visit. Of course we are like a turtle and carry our home with us. If you head for Bordeaux then cross towards Pamplona on to Zaragoza and on South you should have no problems although it's winter so who knows. To be absolutely certain then head directly south from Calais towards and past Lyons and to the south coast of France. Then along the coast crossing at Figueres ( the Dali triangle--magical) then Barcelona-Valencia and on to home. So easy to programme routes into the satnav.

Best wishes & hand on heart, it's the journey not the destination.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra

Thank you. We also have a motorhome but ruled out bringing it! Looks as if the coast road via Figueres may be best.

Hi

We use either Santander or Bibao, which ever ferry we can get a dog freindly cabin on. Head south through Burgos, overnight at J99 on A1, very nice pet friendly hotel, and a couple of local bars in village, usually takes 3.5 hrs from ferry. Usually start around 10am due south to Murcia, dont exclude tolls on sat nav as this takes you round Madrid on motorway. Usually park up for an hour around 1, then straight through to Huercal Overa for 4pm. Only traffic we hit is Murcia to Lorca, rest is a dream

pm for more info and will exchange phone numbers. We are in UK till mid october.

Just wondering James how are you going to handle Brexit. I was thinking maybe we only need a health certificate additionally and all jabs up to date.  Are you going again this October.   ?

Hi

We were over from april to June, as Brexit was postponed to 31st October pet travel arrangements haven,t changed. We plan on returning to Spain early October, again nothing has changed, in repect of tavelling back in December, UK requirements will not change so current passport requirements remain.

This is an excerpt from an article which appeared in THE INDEPENDENT at the end of last year:

"Travelling with pets

Although it is quite common for pets to travel in the cabin of US aircraft, particularly on internal flights, it’s not something that happens much in Europe.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) told The Independent: “Under European regulations EU airlines are allowed to carry pets of up to 8kg in the aircraft cabin, however, it is up to the discretion of each individual airline as to whether they do indeed allow it.

“As far as we are aware no UK operator allows pets to travel in the cabin (other than assistance dogs).” End quote

I believe this is still the case, so you should not bank on being able to fly out of the UK with your dogs.  Best to check with Iberia.  Whilst it might just be possible on the outward flight from the UK to Spain to take your dogs, the problem would be with the return journey into the UK.

I have friends from the USA and Canada who have found this to be the case, and they have flown into Paris with their dogs and crossed the Channel by car and ferry because of this ruling.

Thanks James.  I wonder what your thoughts are here.   We should leave the U.K. for Mojacar before Halloween 🎃. Then travel back within the three month allowance.  However, our wee dog has an EU passport issued in Romania.  Do you think that could be an issue coming back in. She has been with us to Moj last November till April .Im thinking as long as her Rabies is up to date and others she should be ok with U.K. Re-entry.  ??

Yes the european passport has a slightly higher requirement than the UK one in respect of a blood test to confirm efficiency of inoculation, you allready will have this, if new rabies injection needed in future have it done in Spain to continue EU full compliance. But you should be OK for return .

PS As your ,s is EU issued you dont have to rush out before hallowean, you could travel later even if no deal

Thanks again.  This is so helpful. I’m off to the vet in the morning anyway and I know the Romanians didn’t do the titre blood test as she was off to U.K. where no rabies, ( quite annoyed really as I took her to Spain and didn’t know so risky although she did have her rabies jab etc .   Just trying to make sure she doesn’t end up in quarantine I hope these comments help others.  Trudi
