Hello David.
Do you want an expat community or to live in Spain?
We have a two double bed, two bath house for sale in Goñar, a tranquil Spanish village the other side of Huercal Overa. If interested, please reply.
Best of luck anyway.
Phil.
Saludos,
Phil.

Have two friends who live in El Marchal, 10 mins from Lubrin. Beautiful and friendly village, with a good health centre. As villages go, it’s reasonably large but doesn’t meet the definition of “small town” :-)
It’s in the mountains but not way way up high - but enough to get some absolutely stunning views in and around the area. Nearest town(s) of any size would be Vera, Garrucha, Mojácar, all around a 50 minute drive, again through some mind-blowingly breathtaking scenery.

Hi Dario thank you for your information on lubrin and villages around. Can you advise how low or high crime is around this part of almeria and would you consider it a nice place for a holiday home and would you say that it's a area that attracts tourists and a great place to retire eventually. Thanks David

Crime. What’s that? Oh look I make light of it, and in the bigger areas - especially the cities and of course large towns - there is crime; by and large not violent crime, and certainly not so prevalent that I can give an easy answer to that question, because I’m having to really think about what crime I personally know about or have read about … not much.
But in Villages like Lubrin where everyone knows everyone any crime is going to be petty crime. In the remoter areas, holiday homes get broken into sometimes, but that seems to be when places are cut off from view of their neighbours.
If you had a place tucked away from sight that was empty 6 months of the year you MIGHT be inviting trouble - MIGHT; if however you have neighbours that you meet and get along with, they’ll keep an eye on your place when you are not there. But Lubrin is certainly not a high-crime area. Or really an area that can be put into a classification for crime. Less than in UK would be best description.
I certainly would not see Lubrin as a place that attracts a lot of tourists - it’s a village in the mountainous region a few kilometers inland with no tourist attractions. The church of the Virgen is a definite attraction, set high atop a mountain with a steep track up and stunning views from the top, but that’s a good 50 minutes drive from Lubrin.
It’s difficult to say if it would be a good holiday home, because I don’t know what you look for in a holiday. It’s remote, tranquil and quiet there, and if that sounds idyllic, it would certainly make a good place to retire.
