Hi Brenda,
Lubrín is a peaceful little pueblo and yet there's always plenty of people going about their lives in the main streets, except for siesta time. It is quiet, there's no real traffic as the centre of the village is within easy walking distance from the outskirts, so no need to drive locally. Everything is handy - banks, swimming pool and picnic area, health centre, gym, theatre, library etc, without the need to drive.
I think that's why it is such a safe place. You recognise people, your neighbours will know you (even if only to say 'hola'). It's comfortable. And some people leave their houses empty for months at a time but I've never known them have problems.
A woman who lives just outside the village in Rambla Honda takes a small group for yoga, but I don't do yoga myself so I can't tell you more than that. There may be yoga in the gym. I know there is a group that do zumba by the swimming pool so there could possibly be a yoga group held there too. The Spanish are very welcoming and happy to invite us in, and the British living in the area are the same and very helpful.
The local shops are reasonably priced. You can buy almost anything from the bazar, and there's a good market on Wednesdays. People expect the village butchers to be expensive because in the UK supermarkets are much cheaper for buying meat, but it isn't the case here. There are two small supermarkets.
I don't know about car hire, but you can get petrol and diesel at the poligano just outside the village.
There's a good shopping centre in Mojacar, and Albox and Vera cover most things. Almeria is the place I would go for a shopping trip, there are plenty of shopping centres there with food courts and cinemas, and the city centre has some lovely shops.
I hope this is some help to you. It's the kind of place where everyone will say hello, and if you want to make friends it's easy, and if you want peace and quiet you can have it.
