Not sure if I have used the correct category for the following question. I have been advised I may need to crit air sticker for driving to Spain through France. What does anyone think and how do I find which category my car is.

Any help as always will be highly appreciated

Hi,

I drove back to the UK from Spain last week and had no problems.

Have not heard of this, and not sure where they would check this if needed.

There are some police in France on the odd toll booth but they are looking for over 10,000 euros in cash being carried.

Crit air stickers are necessary in a lot of cities in France now. Even if you are not planning to go into cities, it is recommended to get one (for example, if your car broke down and was taken into a city, then you had to drive it out after repair).

Put “Crit air sticker” into Google and the site is easy to follow. You enter your car make, reg number, etc and it tells you which sticker you need. Then gives a document to print to show you have applied, until the sticker arrives.

Think it costs about €5, which is a lot less than the fine if you are caught in a zone. Use the official site as there are other sites which say they do it for you, but charge a lot more.

Document tells you where to put it on the windscreen.

You can buy the sticker online from France but you will need to buy it in person in Spain (that was my experience)

The French sticker cost less than a fiver and took a week to arrive in the UK

We drive down a couple times each year so thought it prudent to get. Although we generally avoid cities it’s better to be prepared.

As far as I’m aware we never needed it but there are cameras everywhere so who knows.

We are currently in Spain and hope to pick up the equivalent here (they are in the EU so why doesn’t the French one suffice?)
