Hi all,

I opened a bank account with Sabadell and was told when I opened it I would not charged any fees to transfer money in euros from a French account to this account. I have just transfered 700 euros into this account as a test and have been charged 20 euros for doing this!!!

Can anyone suggest a bank that is not so expensive or fee free or is this normal for Spain?

Thanks in advance

'Transferwise' every time.

Reliable, fast, easy to use App, cheap transfer fee.  Use them every month £ - €.  Hard to beat these guys!!

This month £1,000 transferred, charge €6.30 and bank beating exchange rate.

Download the App.👍

If you have the Sabadell Expansión account it is fee-free, otherwise bank charges apply

And TransferWise can transfer € to € no problems at all - it beats the hell out of any of the charges any of the banks may levy

That's exactly what I have a Sabadell Expansion Account.

BUT I was told by Andrea SIIIc to get fee free I would also have to take another service of the banks like insurance etc to avoid the quarterly fee.

Also as I said I should not be paying any fees to transfer euro to euro in the EU but the fact remains I have been charged and at the moment they are not interested in correcting this or correcting the charge!

Hi there. Change your account to Cajamar's online account, Wefferent. Absolutely no charges. None. Nada. Then use Transferwise for your transfers.

Download the app, select the language, and when sorted close your other account. If you need help pop into the Palomares branch.

You will certainly benefit by opening this account.

Ah yes - right you are, they’ve changed the requirement for fee-free.  Used to be just the amount coming in, but now you have to have a product linked with it - I’ve got the basic investment savings account linked with a piddling amount in it.  Well worth it to avoid the fees.

Sabadell are just slightly ahead of everyone; eventually all the banks will climb on board with this.

Unfortunately, when you pop into the branch is when you get hit with fees, as there is a service charge levied for any face-to-face transaction.  Wefferent seems to be a good account if you do absolutely everything over the internet and require no human interaction - it’s if you need to go talk to your bank for any reason is when they charge you.

So it’s completely fee-free as long as you do everything online and don’t need to visit the branch.

If you smile nicely, Dario, the cashier will help you set it up. It's true that there is a charge if you need assistance after opening the account, but it's €5 and covers any further assistance you may need for one month. I wasn't charged and I've never needed any help with the account other than enquiring about an incoming payment. That was sorted out  by a delightful lady advisor who called me back once I had raised the enquiry online.
