You have as much chance of becoming infected by that nuclear problem as I have of becoming the Prime Minister of England. I was wondering when somebody would come up with that incident of the 1950's.

However, AndrewS has put in an excellent post otherwise.

As someone has said Palomares prices are lower because of the fear of plutonium contamination.Google Palomares incident on Wikipedia for full details.I live in the village, just sold my apartment and bought a duplex again in the village.I have no concerns about radiation problems here..,

Our solicitor told us this - If your on the padron for 3 years or more at the property you sell you don't pay the 19% CGT. We have two properties so were on the padron at the house we would in theory sell first.

Our friends waited until both were 65 to sign their house sale up, waited a coupel of weeks in their case and saved on all taxes

Yes, the USAF spent a lot of money cleaning up after the accident, the bombs didn't 'go-off' but leaked as I understand it so it was contained to a relatively small area.

I think statistically speaking you've more chance of being run over by a bus than suffering from any radiation sickness.

Just sold my one here for 77,000 euros unfurnished( it was up for 79,000 euros furnished) so quite pleased about that. I think you have to be patient both buying and selling here and still good deals to be had both ways.I have now bought another house in the village for 7000 euros less than the asking price( I put a deposit down on it some 12 months ago) so I am doing ok eventually😁👍🇪🇸🇬🇧

Only thing I don't like are the yobbish behaviour of some if the residents here in the village. Not usually the Spanish but the Brits and the Germans.Cant say too much at this time but suffice to say I am in discussion with my lawyer about possible legal action against certain individuals.....

Not quite true, the high explosive part of a couple of the bombs did go off and therefore spread the plutonium about but fortunately did not trigger a nuclear detonation otherwise this part of Andalucia would no longer be about...I have tried to organise a memorial to the 7 USAF airmen who died that day plus all those that suffered in the area as well but no one seems at all interested in contributing.Would appear that everyone tries to cover it up and would pretend it never happened. Not good for selling property or buying produce from around here because of the spectre of contamination.Apparently if you have lived in the village for more than 2 years you have the right to go to Madrid for radiation check ups but I never have and have no concerns whatsover in living here...

I said 'go-off' meaning it was not an atomic explosion.

The nuclear devices will not have been 'primed' in any event but as you say if an exposion did take place it would have spread any atomic leak further.

You would need to be on or very close to the (de-)contaminated fenced off area for a long period of time for it to cause any issues I think as the USAF did de-contaminate the whole area.

The area will hold less radio-activity than the glow in the dark paint on the arms/ numerals in watches until a few decades ago.

I can't see there being a market for geiger counters.......
